Here's a pic that I took whilst away on holiday several weeks ago.
I can not remember if I took this shot through the window or not.
It is not the best shot by any means. I was not overly happy with the light levels, I've had a play with them a little.

Andy -
Did you take in color then convert to B&W? I'd like to see the color version.

I did take in Colour and then turned it to b&W. Here is the colour version
I told you it needed a lot of work! hehehe

Holy Hannah -
Looked to see what was going on and saw this. This needs serious help. Do you mind if I "tweak" it???

I had a shot at it. Here's what I came up with working with the Gimp

Okay Andy- I tried. Gary did a much better job than I was able to. Another option to try and bring more color into this is to "paint" the various objects, but looking at Gary's redo, there is a lot more detail than what I was able to work with. The file I downloaded was extremely small and I think that's where my problem was.
This will just give you another reason to go back.

The subject of that photo is captivating to me. Where is this at if you do not mind me asking? It is gorgeous!

Did you save the thumbnail or the actual image, Deb?

Thanks for trying Debbie. What effects did you use to get the photo to what you got it to Gary?
Sue, It was taken at HolyHead in Anglesea in the UK.

Using Gimp, I cropped it, Auto white balance, USM. That's it. Real easy, Andy.

Hi Andy...first off and the most important...I love this picture...the moodiness provokes a Black and White image. And, I think most of you know I really love B/W...so..I hope you don't mind that I played with your image too...I used Rob's Black and White conversion action on it and really like how it brought the houses out in the image.
Hope you don't mind...

This is fantastic - you do great work. You are one to be admired. I have this same action and have used it on the barns.

Hey, Girl....don't pat me on the back....:D I didn't do much of anything except save Andy's image and open it in PS and then ran Rob's action....didn't even tweak the action, just took the defaults...it's a great action and I use it on most all my B/W conversions. Maybe someday I will get to where I can tweak it some but right now I just take his lead...

Well - you did a great job. I'm in the process of uploading to the gallery here, then re-working pictures from last weekend. I think it's going to be another all day process. I think I lost a bunch of my actions, so I have to download those again.

I don't know about you, but I'm finding a hard time of doing all I need to do. I guess I really need to retire so I have the time but then I'll have trouble finding the money...:D
Hope you get your images uploaded...I like looking at them.

By Friday, I'm usually writing a list of what I want to get done over the weekend and I never seem to get everything crossed off and I'm quite a few years from retirement. I'd be happy if I could go part-time. Oh well. And I did get a few pictures uploaded. Back to work.

Thanks Mary, I have now downloaded the Action you mentioned. I was not aware of the "actions" facility in Photoshop so there is something else I have learned.
I was going to ask if there was somewhere where you could download actions from but I did a google search and found this website,
http://www.atncentral.com/download.htm#CSpringer_Wrinkle
Seems to have loads of things on there.
Cool.
p.s. I like what you did with the photo.:)

I don't get much into actions but Rob's B/W has been in my files for a long time now...I just love what it does. I believe, Debbie, sent me this link but I could be wrong...I have seen it just lately though and I did download a few that I thought I might like to try.
I'm glad you liked the photo and was able to find Rob's action.

Mary -
It's possible I posted the link, but not sure. I did go back yesterday and downloaded a bunch more and since I can never remember what they do, I did a cut/paste and printed out a cheat sheet, then played around with a few of them. Depending on the picture, some work better than oters, but for the most part, I like what I downloaded.

I downloaded the infra red one and tried that but was not too impressed with that one. Like you say, it is a case of trial and error. I like the idea of the cheat sheet though, very often, I download things on my computer and then totally forget to use them!

Would you like a copy of what I have? I always forget too, hence the cheat sheet.

Andy - I will send as a PM - never mind, you're set up to not accept PM, so I'll try to attach here for others to see. I have renamed a few of the actions to what would work for me. I hope they make sense.

Strange, I have just checked and it says that I have enabled the part to receive PM's. Could you try to send me another PM and see if it works, if not, I'll have to have a chat with Admin and see what is happening.
Thanks

I figured out why I couldn't send the PDF. I can send a PM, but not an email message. I couldn't figure out how to send an attachment on a PM.

I'm not sure if you can send an attachement via a PM.

Nope... can't send attachments via PM.

Didn't think you could. Best just ask the person in the PM for their email addy then the attachement can be sent that way.
