First, everyone...I tried editing the first weekly topic thread and couldn't get it to change the topic...any idea what I did wrong? I went to edit and then advanced and then changed the title but it didn't change the thread title.

Second, just wanted you all to know why I was scarce this weekend.. got them all done and a teacher can but haven't got a photo of that yet...will get it done before I leave for work

They look Beautiful Mary. What is inside the tins? Or is that a secret only for the sender and their true love?

Sorry, my mistake :o I have just tried with one of my posts. It does change the title but only on the first post in the thread and not the title of the actual post. I take it that this would have to be done by the Admin. At least we gave it a try but from now on, the titles can be posted in the recommended way which would then lead to clarity in the future.

Thanks, Debbie...they were fun to make up...I do them for Gavin for all the major holidays, Christmas, Halloween and Valentine.
He picks the design and I make them up...he wanted flowers for the girls and cowboys for the boys...I find it easier to design the girls...:)

I used small fruit cans and a can opener that does not cut the lid off but unglues it...not sure exactly the name of the can opener but it's hand held and I bought it at Wal-mart. Bill and I ate lots of fruit the last two weeks. I take the bottom of the can off and then filled it with candy and stickers and then glue the bottom back on with super glue. The labels are done by using digital scrapbooking kits and clipart and designed in Corel Draw 12 or Photoshop...I know more about making the templates in Draw so I use it mainly. Then just print, laminate and cut and put on the cans. On the girl cans, I used foam shapes to give it three dimensional look. Added ribbon to the pop top and that's it.....this was the teacher can and it's a quart can that I bought at Walgreen's. They sell them at Christmas time and they have Christmas designs on them. I painted over the design with white paint so it doesn't show through the label and then paint the lid and edges that will show with the green paint to match the label. These graphics come from Daisy Company and the artist is Gina Johnson. Use the same methods as the small cans and tie the ribbon onto the handles. I love how my camera 'picked' up the pearl look of the spray I put on the label. Look at the original size to see this...the teacher can was filled with chocolate hearts.

You are so creative. I'll have to try this out for my grandsons. I can scrapbook (kinda) and machine embroidery, beyond that, I'm helpless. What a wonderful grandma to do this!!

They do indeed sound great. The only bit I am confused with is where you say you un-glue the bottom. Our tins over here are totally metel etc and you have to cut them open with the tin opener so I guess over where you live, the tins are different.

No confusion...our tins are metal too and most of the can openers will 'cut' the top off but these cans have a pop top like a can of pop and you use a safety can opener..

that removes the bottom of the can with a smooth edge that you can glue back on...Makes people wonder how you got the stuff inside the can.

They are quite fun to give out...most people can't figure out how you did it...my grands love to get them.

Thank you, Andy, for telling me about the quick links...didn't even know it was up there..:D guess I need to do some searching on the forum and see what all those buttons are for.
