I just wanted to find out which of these would be best to turn in for my black & white pic for my final assignment.

17025
f/7.1, 1/15 sec, iso 200

17026
f/7.1, 1/60 sec, iso 200

17027
f/6.3, 1/60 sec, iso 100

or should I keep trying?

These are all nice shots Jim. Personally for a B&W assignment, I like the first one. It has good contrast between the blacks, whites, grays, and nice sharpness.
Let's see what others think.

An afterthought... just wondered whether cropping a small amount of the white off the left would be better?? The white background is fairly bright/stark.

I like number three Jim.
There is something compelling in your son's eyes in that shot.
More so than the color version I think.

They are all fine shots, three just makes me want to know more.

Thanks for your input Kaye and hubcap. #3 is honestly my favorite too. #1 is just me with some fake glasses i bought at Walmart lol. That's probably why I don't prefer either of the first two. I'm just waiting to see what Greg has to say.

Honestly, of the 3 I think your 3rd one had the right mix of strong posing, expression, and a great textured background. Your settings and lighting throughout all three worked well, but i think it was the combination of all the elements and the fact that the subject was looking off camera that really grabbed my attention.

There's something about a subject that's looking away from you that makes you look deeper, wondering what has grabbed their attention. I just think that it really helps to boost the overall image appeal. Well done! All three would be a good turn-in, but the 2nd really rocks!
