Yesterday I decided to test out my Nikkor 70-200 F/2.8VR in a known bad place, and thats an indoor hockey rink. Really bad light quality that plays havoc with the white balance.

I took my dad along and we had such a good time, it was surprising! We watched 2 rival teams that had to be no older than 8-9 years old and it was an exciting game, however the REAL action was in the stands.

The parents divided off in the stands sitting on th side where their kid's team was and it was a cheering competition. First one side would chant and cheer, then the next... and you would not believe how emotional they got when the other side scored... we were laughing to tears at their antics!

Anyways, I spent more time enjoying all the antics than taking pics but here are a few that I did. :)

This was a very informal game... even parents and young girls were permitted to play without equipment. It was very friendly and fun to watch!

I thought just Minnesotan's were born with skates on?? I was born in Milwaukee, but have lived in MN most of my life.

I have to admit, when the average starting age here in Quebec that little boys start playing organized hockey at is 4 years old... it makes me wonder.

But if you want a laugh, its done best while watching 4-5 year olds scammering all over the ice trying to skate with 10 pounds of equipment on them... lol

I'd rather watch 4-5 year olds play than adults. Adults have forgotten how to have fun when playing sports. With children, they still have their innocence and hopefully haven't learned the heavy handed tactics yet and are playing just for fun.

These are great photos, Jerry...I'm am going to have to start saving my change for one of these lenses...my telephoto is not a fast lens and does horrible in low light conditions. I just want a good lens that takes great photos of my grandson's Christmas programs. I've not got a good picture yet...the light is just horrible in the school gym and you have to sit so far back...ugh..
