I didn't get any good pictures of the lunar eclipse but I did get some of the moon before dark. I wish I knew how to get the moon with its beautiful texture instead of this white blob. The moon was glorious on my way home from work and I broke all the traffic laws trying to get home to capture it. I failed but I have this image to 'remind' about how beautiful it was that cold, February night. It was so low in the sky when I left work, it looked like it would touch the horizon..and the sky was this awesome shade of blue...the two combinations made for a wonderful sight.

Very beautiful...do you know what could make it better?
NO SNOW ! HAHAHAHA
Can you tell I am just sick of this snow. We are supposed to get another 6 inches tonight. Even when I was a little girl, I was the child who NEVER wanted to go out in the snow and play. I am more of a playing at the beach type of girl. That I love.

Mary I know exactly what you mean in terms of wanting to capture all of the texture. I tried to do the same thing and couldn't figure out how to do it or what I was doing wrong. I was even in a spot with little light polution so I thought it would stand out more, but it just looked like a big glowy blow with tiny blobs around it! :p But I do think the picture turned out beautiful, the snow and barren trees really add a lot to it.

Thanks, Debbie...its on my list too...I know it can be done cause everyone else does it but I haven't figured it out yet and now I've got to wait for the next full moon. I wish I could have captured that beauty cause I can describe how beautiful it was!

Try getting up every day and driving in it from 8 in the morning till 6:30 at night...talk about getting tired of it....I would be happy to never see snow again...not for the rest of my life.
Thanks for the comments though.

Well, Kim, I hope that when one of us figures it out, we will share that knowledge with each other. I just wish I could have captured the beauty of it when it was so low in the sky...I even took my camera to work with me on Friday, just in case the sky was as pretty on my drive home but it wasn't. I won't give up...

I like your shot very much Mary. I'm not sure how to pull the detail out of the moon, but I would like to see more of the trees. It just seems to me the composition is a little bottom heavy with the waterline, horizon line, and tree line so close together, and falling a little short of the rule of thirds. If you couldn't backup or use a wider lens, maybe get a little closer and angle the camera upwards.
I love the blue color. And you know, with that color, I think it would take a little away from the shot it the moon were dimmer with more detail. I think the moon is very apropriate with the warm color, considering the very cool sky. They contrast each other very well and really make the shot I think. Great work.

Thanks for the comments...I understand completely what you are telling me and I'll try and remember that the next time. I was using my wide angle but I was up on a hill, the trees and such were below me and trying to get both them and the moon in the picture was a challenge and it was too cold to move closer...I was not real prepared to take a photo as I was just coming home from work and my opportunity was about gone. My hubby had my camera out of the bag and the tripod set up but I still had to take it up to the top of the hill to get any good tree line and my fingers were froze...forgot my gloves!:) This is what I'm hoping to get out of this course...the knowledge to do things on the spur of the moment and not have to think about it so much... Thanks for the positive critique...that's what I'm looking for and needing to get better.
