Gary nice photo. I do have a question though...Do you know all of these birds from your head, or do you have to look some of them up. If you have to look some of them up does it take a long time to find them in the book?

Gary nice photo. I do have a question though...Do you know all of these birds from your head, or do you have to look some of them up. If you have to look some of them up does it take a long time to find them in the book?

I'm becoming familiar with them more and more. If I spot one I don't know, I use this book:

http://www.amazon.com/Birds-Kentucky-Field-Guide-Guides/dp/188506196X/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1203646999&sr=8-1

This guy's got one published for just about everywhere. The nice thing about this book is, it's indexed by bird COLOR and therefore makes it a snap to find just about any bird quickly and easily unlike the Sibley's Field guide. And, what makes it doubly nice is that the identification pictures are PHOTOS not some idealized drawing that may or may not look like the bird. Way cheaper than Sibley's, too.

Yours is:

You can get them locally at Wild Birds, Unlimited.

OK thanks. I know you gave me the info before, but I couldn't find it. My mother bought us an Ohio birds book and it is hard to find all them in. I am going to look at that now. I must admit I don't know the names of most birds (my husband laughed when we first got married, because I never heard of a Starling. Funny thing is I LOVE BIRDS. People do not understand how smart these creatures are.

Hey I just noticed that your book has the cardinal on it and that is our state bird. How funny!

Gary -

Another nice shot - I am very jealous you are able to get such good shots.

Sue - I think my favorite bird is the cardinal. We have a pair that sit in a huge willow tree in our neighbors back yard and sing.

Thanks. Just a little P&S camera, Debbie. The birds do all the work. :)

The birds may do all the work, but you're the one taking the picture.

I was at photo club last nite and saw some really nice shots from a point and shoot.

You have an incredible talent and you "get it" when it comes to taking pictures, and that is something I admire. Like Sue says, it's not just a little point and shoot. In your hands, it becomes something remarkable.

Gary I noticed something, while going to the site
http://www.birdwatchusa.com/

Notice the "photo of the week" and the right hand side of the page - Gary your photos are MUCH better than this! I just had to tell you that.

You are right Sue, Gary's images are far better. Perhaps you should submit some of your pics Gary?

Thanks very much, Sue & Andy.

As far as submitting my captures... I don't think I'm eligible, Andy. This appears to be for a bird-watching club in Wisconsin.
