...I think would be a great addition to the photography course.

If you are like me, a stay home Father, and live in MN where it is hard to get out in the deep winter months, I think it would be great to have a section in the course that centers around photography within the house. I know that sounds a little odd, say still life that would keep someone like me that enters the course some ideas to keep one busy, while waiting for the warmer months.

For instance like how to set up a small home studio, the ins and outs, and other things within the confines of the home.

Again, I know it sounds a little funny to have a section on this, but one starts running out of ideas come Jan. :-)

Sounds great to me although I tend to run out of ideas in summer more than winter. Seems weird considering the 7-8 months of winter we have verse the other three seasons crammed into 4 months...

I think Sue would have a good grasp on this. I think she has a small studio set up in her home.

For other indoor shots, what about taking your daughter to some of the local museums on "free" days? Like you - trying to get outside to shoot is tough if the weather doesnt' cooperate.

Well the course is intended more for being a starter level course and has to be general to accomplsh certain goal.

However, there is nothing stopping us from starting a thread on how to make a small home studio and make a a few DIY projects to make it more affordable and fun.

I have seen a small studio setup big enough to contain small objects up to 6-8 inches. I saw it in a Walmart in Orlando for around $40 using a couple of flashlights on stands, a box with openings and some transluscent paper and a very basic plain white backdrop.

I am sure we could do a home project about this for near nothing. Using those same techniques one could expand that to larger and larger setups until we are into a life-sized studio.

Heck, since I like portraiture so much, I would not mind sharing what I learn by making a new thread and doing something like a post a week dedicated to that (this could motivate me to learn something new each week to share), if you feel that would help you and others here?

That would be great. I know for me, I shy away from portraits, but at some point in time, I may want to get better at it.

Thinking about it, we could start very slowly, maybe a review of the course chapter and expanding it, maybe slowly evolve it into some kind of guide that takes a little info that I gleam from here and there?

If we get more people that would be interested in this, I would ask the administrators to maybe make a section just about this for us.

Let's see what the consensus of our group will be. :)

I am in! I love portraits and want to learn more. Right now, I am just messing with my strobes and and just having a blast doing it.
