Thanks to our administrator for accepting my request, we have a brand new section here that I hope is going to generate a lot of interest and interesting & educational conversations!
I'll be looking to start our first thread here within a day or two. I'd like to start out easy and slowly work up into many topics. More than likely we'll start with the built-in flashes already on our cameras and grow out from there.
I hope you are all looking forward to it as much as I am!

I love this! I'm terrible when it comes to setting up lighting. I prefer ambiant much more.
Maybe you could also branch out into easy solutions for lighting problems? I remember reading in a recent post here - sorry I can't remember who's it was right now - about the lighting studio in wal mart that's pretty much just stands, cloth and flashlights. I think learning how to set up a quickie lighting set like that would be really beneficial for some.

We are going to try to touch on many issues and as I share, I will also learn too. Yes, the mini-studios will be touched on and I would love to look into seeing if we could DIY a setup like that for less than even what Walmart sells them at.
We will start off with a few basics, on-camera (built-in and add-on), and from there go to off camera flashes and into studio setups... not necessarily in that exact order, but we will try to touch as many topics as possible but always with a twist that I've not seen anywhere else... the desire to explain it in as simple a language as is humanly possible.
Of course the jargon will slip in, but I really enjoy knowing things in ways that don't baffle me with BS, but at the same time, do enjoy using terminology in it's proper manner.
With the goal of learning while having fun at the same time, I think this new section is going to be a great new feature here. :)

Congratulations Jerry - I'll take a read at the posts for future reference, but stick to outdoors for now.

Thank-you kindly Debbie, I sincerely hope to help others a little as I learn... and maybe we may eventually convince you to try the flash even outdoors when needed... lol

Jerry are you going to have the chance to add anything else to this? I am just curious.

Exactly what I am looking for right now! I have been reading up on this subject a lot lately, and with books it goes in one eye and out the other. lol
It will be good to have another source of learning about studios and lighting.

Congrats Jerry. Is this topic focused on lighting? I didn't get from your thread start what the topic would be.
If it is on lighting and stobe work, then I have lots I can contribute to. Mostly questions. :)
I like to think that I'm accomplished in photography, but when it comes to strobe work, not so much. In fact, sometimes it drives me crazy trying to dial in inside work.
I really look forward to the help.
