Several times whilst observing the birds at the feeders, my wife has mentioned that there sured seemed to be a lot of one-eyed finches. Sure enough we found out why -- the bird world isn't as loving and tranquil as it seems on the surface. No matter how plentiful the food source, these guys fight over it. Their main target is the eyes. And, oddly enough, it seems to be more prevalent in these small finches than other species.

Wow, that makes them the street fighters of the bird world. I always feel bad for them. The extra hardships that a bird with one eye gets are way more than I feel they deserve.

Wow - something I never thought of or watched for. May have to keep an eye out for that.

None at all - I didn't even catch that. Still recovering from the weekend (and no partying involved).

If you notice, the hawks worst enemy is the black bird! I've watch a display in the sky where two blackbirds gang up on a hawk, the hawk has to be very careful because if any of his feathers are damaged, it could impact on his hunting skills and thus his survival!
