Several of you have expressed an interest in attracting birds but, for one reason or another (probably cats in the area) the birds just don't come to your existing feeder. Here's one I made from a piece of junk acrylic/plastic and a lid from a Wet Swiffer container. It's attached to the window with mounting tape. It is in an area that cats have made SEVERAL kills and the birds stopped coming to the conventional feeder. This can be made from a clear plastic shoe box... REAL easy.

It was only on the window overnight and it had customers the very next day. Mind you, this next shot is crappy because condensation had built up between the feeder & window and I didn't take a whole lot of time composing it. But... it works!

I make everything that I can. I make my own laundry detergent. Guess what ?? 2 cents per load and it is even for HE washers. HAHA so I DO things the cheaper route too if I can. (by the way the laundry detergent is great)

Well it is a recipe actually. It requires a few old fashioned soaps such as borax, fels naptha, and arm and hammer wash soda (different then arm and hammer laundry detergent. I will send you the recipe if you want it.

I'm in the market for a new washer and dryer and thinking about going the HE way this time...any suggestions on a good brand. I'm a diehard Kenmore fan but I'm not reading very good reviews on Kenmore's HE washers. If you don't mind, I'd love to have that recipe too, Sue...

You are very inventive, Gary...I still haven't got any bird feeders up yet but I'm hoping to do it soon. We have a ton of cats in the neighborhood and they seem to like to use my flower beds for their daily chores. I'm not sure any birds will be safe from them or my neighbor boy...who likes to shoot them...Someday..I might have to shoot back...:D Trust me, it won't be with a gun...I'd miss him and hit something else, but I might use something messy...eggs, tomatoes, slop...etc...:D:D

And dont forget to shoot the photograph after you have pelted them with the eggs and toms! :D:D
Thanks for the idea Gary, I'll have to look into it.

Mary we just bought a set of HE5ts and guess what? I did 3 loads and the washer broke..took two appointment with the tech to fix, and when the washer was fixed the dryer broke. We had them a total of 3 weeks, but couldn't use them! Needless to say they went back and NOW we see the bad reviews on that brand. I went with the GE harmony profiles because they were bigger and cheaper and had more options! If they would have had them on the show room floor I would have bought those in the first place. I found them online at the store that we bought them from. They are very nice and they connect to each other...when the washer is finished washing they send the info (weight) to the dryer and it automatically sets the time for the dryer based upon what is in the washer. They are also HE. I love them! The only thing some people do not like about them is the touch screen (I love it and if it ever goes bad I will pay to have it fixed. You just touch the screen for what you want and go about your business. I have never been happier with an appliance purchase.

Thank you, Sue, for the information and the recipe for the soap. I've been doing lots of research today and think I've about decided on the GE Harmony set. I found them online for about $600 cheaper then our local Lowes store with free shipping if I order by tomorrow. I'm going to sleep on it tonight and decide in the morning.

Gary - I think I found out why I'm not seeing birds. I was in my "room" yesterday, looked out the window, and there is a strange cat sitting outside the window. I don't own cats, I have a dog. Very ingenius idea you've got there!
Sue - can I get the soap recipe also, please? Your washer story sounds like my boss - she bought top of the line Kenmore and had tech's out every 3mos for a year. Knock on wood - my washer is still doing great, might have to replace the dryer soon though.
