I just picked up one of these for a "carry-with-me-everyplace" camera. I just SOLD a FE-280 because, oddly enough, I was disappointed with the IQ. Seems like everything came out blurry -- even with IS on. But, look at these shots from the FE-230. Difference? The 280 has a smaller sensor and the 230 is 7.1 MP whilst the 280 is 8 MP. I know that's not enough to make that much of a difference but, SOMETHING sure is making quite a difference. These were taken free-hand with the 230. Sorry, but I don't have any from the 280 to compare... they were THAT bad.

These are awesome, Gary...the colors and clarity are outstanding...now does this have much of a zoom on it? And, did they get the fire put out? :D

Thanks, Mary. It has a li'l bitty 3x zoom. Nothing to speak of. It just mystifies me why the cheaper of the two gets much better IQ pictures. I'm beginning to think the FE-280 was defective in some way.

No fire. :) They were just doing a neighborhood familiarization run for the rookies.

I did a search on it and the price is really good...I'm thinking of ordering one myself for a carry around camera. I love my Sony SLR but would like to have a small one to just carry in my purse. I'm thinking you might be right about the other camera...making it had a focus issue that needed to be repaired.

You might want to check a local Radio Shack, Mary. I got this li'l 230 for $90 as a Manager's Special Clearance item.

I'll do just that, Gary...we have a local store in town and another one in the bigger town about 30 miles from here.

As a follow-up to this:

I tried a different FE-280 and with much better results. Weird! Sooooo, I'm putting the FE-230 up for sale and just won another FE-280 (new, in a sealed box) on eBay.

One of two things here -- either it's the nut behind the wheel or a whacked-out camera. I guess we'll see, eh?
