I just came across this and thought I'd share it with you. I'll be trying my hand at making my own as I can't see forking out $30 for one.

I bought an ordinary neoprene neckstrap that I paid $35Cdn for and I know I can carry my D200 with batterypack and my 2nd heaviest lens (the 18-200) around my neck for 10 hours a day without strain. By extending the strap, I can loop an arm through it and use it just like he shows. It is wider (2.5-3 inches) and a nylon neoprene which means that the camera literally feels 50% lighter.

I think that for me, this is the ultimate solution... and if I had to listen to that guy say "y-strap" one more time in those 2 videos, I think I would have wanted to bitch slap him. I basically turned off the 2nd vid about 2 minutes into it, I just could not take him anymore... lol

BTW, it is a nice way to carry a camera, but I know thieves love this concept. They can EASILY come from behind you, grab the camera, cut the strap and run away before you finish turning around.

Looks like a good concept. It just doesn't look sturdy enough for me. I'm sure it's strong though. I wonder what would happen in time to the bottom of the loop where the camera rests on your hip. You think it would get all bunched up from the weight?

Y-strap, Y-strap, Oh.....sorry Jerry. Hehe

I, for the life of me, could not see what the big deal is. I can do the same thing with a keyring and a belt!

@Jerry - There are two reasons I wouldn't buy one of these. One of 'em is: the advert. You're right. He's obnoxious and looking at the video he over-explains stuff that is obvious even to a moron.

I just thought I'd share the concept, though. As you point out, easy enough to adapt your current strap to, make your own or just make an open invitation to the cut-straps to take your gear.

I wonder... is a prerequisite of wearing the Y-strap, also wearing a G-string?

Jerry - is that a sexist joke???

I didn't watch the video. Like Jerry, I have a neoprene strap as well - takes a lot of pressure off the neck.

Nope, I am sure I have seen a man wear one once (to my sad regret). I think it was during a muscle-man competition or something.

... yeah, thats where. :p

ewwwwwwwwwww!!! Many, many, many year's ago, I saw one of the "female" impersonator shows in Vegas. Some weren't wearing a whole lot and when I hear g-string now days - unfortunately, that's what I think of.

You know what, this is likely the best piece of confirming info that anyone can say. Having taken the time to make it yourself and then form a real life opinion is a great confirmation.

My neoprene strap places my camera at the solar plexus a area and that makes it easy to loop a hand through it ala Y-strap method or keep the camera around the neck in a manner that thanks to the neoprene, ake the camera really feel only 1/2 of what it is.

Neoprene staps are my fav. If you carry a heavier camera, I do recommend that you look them over.

Whilst my cameras aren't heavy, I DO use a neoprene strap. Anything gets heavy after a time. I used to marvel at how an light an M-16 rife was compared an M-14 rifle and categorically stated I could carry one of them all day without bother... until I had to do it a few times. THEN, even the M-16 got to feel like a ton. :D

I'm not married but if I wanted to do an ex-wife joke, I could... but I won't make any comments about the old ball and chain... just because I am so nice. lmao!

I am not able to carry the camera for any length of time around my neck it makes me uncomfortable. so I purchased a strap for bonoculars that ys in the back and has a strap that goes over and under each arm it is elastic so it is easy to pull up and use on a moments notice and no more neck strain.
Works for me
