Are the Zeiss lenses of good quality? Does anybody have experience with them? My daughter has a very nice cam corder that has a Zeiss lens and it has a beautiful picture.

Carl Zeiss is supposed to be one of the best. This is what's on my Sony P&S, and yes, it does take great pictures.

Sue - the pictures I posted from Vegas were from the Sony, now that I think about it. Oh - and way before I knew what aperature, shutter speed, composition and all that other stuff was about.

In the earlier days of photography, only the elite could afford a Carl Zeiss lens, as they were AMAZING for quality, but the quality matched the price.
Today, they've lowered their standards (though still high), in an effort to capture a larger market share.
Camcorders like Sony use a Zeiss lens (I have the 100gb Sony HD camcorder), and they are quite nice, but they do not use Zeiss top of the line glass, its more like their mid-grade (becuase it would increase the cost of the camcorders by several thousand dollars more if they used their high grade glass!), but if you go to their website, you can get a lot more info about them. There is not a ton of lenses for me, but if I wanted to spend $10,000 on lenses from them, I likely easily could... and not have bought them all, either.
Zeiss makes some darn fine photography lenses, thats where they made their reputation.

Yes, Zeiss and Sony have a very serious business relationship, deeper than Canon or Nikon.
They are one of the few companies that I know of that do an incredible quality F/1.0 lens. Let's talk bokeh! :D

I did a fast search and could not find the info on that lens, but I do recall seeing a few pics from it. But Leica (a close competitor of CZ) have a manual focus 50mm F/1.0 (http://www.amazon.com/Leica-Noctilux-M-Manual-Focus-11822/dp/B00009XW3A) for the very reasonable sum of ~ $5,500.00US.
