This was a freehand shot so I didn't try to "silkify" the water. It would have been a huge blur. I *did*, however, use my CPL (used it in all of the Gatlinburg shots) and you can see how it dramatically cut the glare off the water surface. Without it, you wouldn't be able to see the rocks at the bottom of the stream. (Shot with the Oly)

Gary, if you ever get the chance, could you shoot a comparison shot with the CPL in place and without it (or twisted in a manner that it doesn't affect the scene)? Its not often that you see the same scene before and after. I'd really appreciate it! :D

In your pic above, the colours look very vibrant!

I still haven't figured that danged CPL filter out. I can't seem to see the change in my viewfinder when I turn it. I can see it off the lens if I hold it up to my monitor but can't see it when I put it on my lens I'm going to have to practice with it a lot more.

I love this shot, Gary...nice and peaceful.

I think y'all might be expecting too drastic a change. Look for the change in less reflection on the water or on glass. Look for more detail UNDER the water or BEHIND the glass. Don't expect or look for dramatic color or exposure change as you would see whilst holding it up to a monitor. Two different animals.

Thanks, Mary. You'd never dream that not 15 feet away was a very busy parking lot.

Stand 90 degrees to the sun, point it at some clouds in the sky and turn away, it is supposed to make a difference. :)

Funny... I have a CPL for the video camera, but not for the dSLR. With 6 lenses, I'd not know what size to get for which lens... lol

What does "CPL" stand for?
Here in Corpus "CPL" is an Electric Co.

CPL means circular polarizing lens (filter)
