I took these shots at a lake in the mountians here this past weekend. Thought I'd post them for you since it looks like you are a bird love.
I watched them for about 45 mins, the bird with the twig would leave the nest, circle around the pine trees and snap twigs off the tops of dead trees. He/She did it twice while I was there.
You could actully hear the twigs snap off when it hit the tree top.

WOW... nice captures! Any idea what they are?

They're definately birds of prey, but I am not sure. Looks like falcons to me, but not a Perrigrin.

I am sorry, they are Osprey, They are in the hawk family.
They mate for life and return to the same nest every year.
This lake, Lake Gramby has the largest population in the state of Colorado. Gramby is located about 75 miles west of Denver.

I am sorry, they are Osprey,
It clicked for me as soon as I read that... how could I not recognize it. There are no Osprey in Canada, they are mostly a warmer client bird... very beautiful!
