This may be a really dumb question to ask, but how do i know what size filter to use?
I have a Nikon D40X.
Unless I'm going blind, i doesn't say in the manual.
Help!

Laura -

It will depend on the size lens you use. If Nikon is like Canon, look on the inside cover of your lens cap - there should be a number. That would be the size filter you will need. Some common sizes would be 58mm 77mm and the bigger the lens, the more expensive the filter. You may also be able to use step up/step down rings which would allow you to use one size filter on different size lens, but depending on which way you go, this may cause vignetting in your picture.

Look inside of your lens ...do you see something that says 58mm , 62 mm or anything like that?

Ahh. I've found it. Theres is a diameter symbol and 52 next to it. Im guessing that is it.

The Nikkor lenses I have right now take 52mm filters.
