Laura - you and Andy are very blessed to be able to capture the castles of old. They are fascinating buildings. I love the second one.

Thanks debbie. There are some amazing castles in the UK. I love them. The second was taken from the top of the castle on the walk-way that joins the four corner towers looking inside. I hate heights, but I managed to control my nerves and stop shaking to take the picture (the things we have to do to get the photo).
The first one was actually taken as a passenger in a moving car, so I'm quite happy with the result of that.

Nice captures Laura. I like the first one as it shows how well placed the castle was and probably very difficult to capture.
As Debbie said , we are so lucky to so many of these old castle to explore and photograph, probably best in B&W.

Thanks Eddie, are you from UK too? - I haven't tried it in B&W, will try it when I get home after work and post it here. Thanks.

Wow...now my cows are making me very mad....no castles to photo here, just cows and barns. I'd love to explore over there as I love old buildings. I love going to old, run down houses and exploring them. Wondering what life was like in that house when people lived there..was it a happy home, or a sad home?
If you don't mind, can I make a suggestion? You really need to turn your date stamp off your photos. I just visited your gallery and you have some awesome images that are ruined by that stamp. I love the one with the framing of the castle with the windows.

Thanks Mary. These photos were taken a couple of years ago on a cheap digital P&S camera. I couldn't find any option to remove the date though.
I was able to crop the first picture to remove the date. But couldn't do this with most of them, without taking ruining the picture. I am glad to say that I no longer use this camera, I have a Nikon DSLR now, so it won't be a problem in the future.
Thank you so much for your kind comments though about my photos.
p.s. I'd love to be able to take photos of barns. There aren't many opportunities to get close enough with trespassing on private property!

The only problem here now is that most of these barns are falling down. The farm equipment is way too big for the barns of yesterday and the farmers are just letting them waste away. I've taken some and gone back a few months later and they are gone. Just a memory now. But, up in Iowa, they are massive barns and so lovely to photograph. I'm going to spend a weekend up there, some day, just taking photos.
If you can get back to that image of the castle within the frame of the arch, you should, and submit it for your lesson five assignment. It is awesome!

I have already used this photo! As one of the three I had to submit at the beginning of the course. I do love that photo though, I think it might be because of the place and the memories though.
Its a shame about all those barns. I understand that maybe they cannot be used for the same purpose as originally used, but they shouldn't be left just to 'rot'. I don't about anywhere else in the world, but in the UK a lot of dis-used barns get restored and became homes/business premesis, etc. They look fantastic.

Hi Laura, I'm from Dublin,Ireland and happy to say with connections in Scotland (2 sisters married to 2 Glaswegians) and London. Just back from there where our daughter got married to a lad from Watford. Wedding was in St.Albans.
Going over in early Sept for a week down in Cornwall. Looking forward to that, should be plenty of photo opportunities. Way behind on the course with all that been going on but hope to catch up very soon.
Regards
Eddie

Just missing Wales out then!!
I'd love to visit Ireland, it looks so beautiful.
I'm not surprised your behind on the course with a wedding to organise!
Im planning on visiting my parents in Wales in a few weeks (there english, but moved there for a quieter life a few years ago) to get some photos. They live in a great little village on the side of a valley, perfect for photographing.
I've come to a bit a stand still with the course too. Need to get back on track.

Hi Laura, not this year but it's on our list of places to visit as my impressions of Wales is that it's very like Ireland from some of the pictures I've seen. How do you think the B&W version of the castle looks, it's looks a very striking image.

It looks better than I thought it would! Overall it gives a very different 'mood' to the photo. I like it.:)

They are both nice, but I think I like the B&W one better. I like the way the clouds look.

Thanks sue, it does look a bit more dramatic in B&W.
