After what seemed like eternity, I'm finally seeing some decent roses. Here are a couple of Rio Sambas and a Cherry Parfait. Shot in natural light from a window on black velvet.

Thanks so much, Mary. But, you probably do grow roses like this and aren't tellin', huh? ;)

I don't do anything. Stick 'em in the ground and God does the rest. Then, all I have to do is whip out my li'l, ol' camera and P&S! Nuthin' to it. :)

Actually, using natural light from the window and going in to Aperture Priority does all the work. The black velvet completes it. Anybody with a P&S and a tripod can do it.... really.

Nothing like you do! I do have one Rose bush that I planted a year and a half ago but its not too pretty and it has no blooms yet. I had a couple miniature roses but lost both of those. So....my green thumb is not as good as yours. I love growing flowers but they have to be able to survive mostly on their own cause I don't have time to baby them. I give them water and fertilizer and the rest is up to them. I just spent 2 weeks planting and I'm bushed.

Off to bed.

Which one, Sue? I'm still looking around for a club here. I'm hesitant to join as a guy at work is in one and he's such a pompous jerk. I humbled him a bit when I showed him my rose shots. I had to show him the EXIF to prove it was P&S. :D

I think it was the SP550, but I am not sure. We put all of our photos on a flash drive, and then show them. His photos were outstanding! I can tell you that his photos, were better than the photos with the DSLR's. No I was NOT amazed, because I KNOW how great Olympus cameras are. (Our camera club, has really, really, nice people in it, but there is one that is a know it all..I know everything type of guy)

I am just catching up on all the fabulous photos here. Your roses take the cake! Do you actually grow these beauties?
Oh please send me a dozen!
Hubby thinks they are great as well. Congrats.
Cheers Ingrid

Yes, Ingrid, I do. I have about 15 varieties. My favorite is the Chihuly for eye-appeal and Double Delight for fragrance.

Thanks so much.

I am not a jealous person, but I am now.
We cannot really grow roses well in the tropics. Too hot and then too wet. You know what I mean. But do I love roses and their perfume. I buy soaps, lotions and potions to make up for it with rose fragrance.

Looking at the various comments about clubs and know-it-alls, the essential difference with this forum, is that there is generous help available, offered from many people who know a lot more that I do, given in a way that is very beneficial and an extra guidance to learn more and improve one's skill's. This at the end of the day, is why we're all here.
