Would this be considered abstract??? They are pictures i have taken two are of flowers and one is of the flag then i played with them in photo explosion and would it count for the course since the abstract part of it is basically done after the picture???

Definitely abstract. But I think we are not permitted to do that much manipulation in software.
For abstract photography I think we are to look for subject matter, perhaps do a macro of something to show something real but viewed from a different angle showing it off as something that we would not expect.
Go through your house and find objects and place them in some fashion and take a photo of them from all sort of different angles and lighting. You might surprise yourself what you will find. I know it all sounds so easy, but once you get the gist of it, you won't stop. Well that is the way I see it anyway.

I would say it is abstract art, made out of a photo, but for an abstract assignment, I think I would take a really nice macro shot of something super close, so it doesn't look like what it normally should. It is amazing the things that you can find to do this to!
