Here is a bee. This bee was moving so fast, he was a hard capture. I liked the way it turned out considering how hard he was to photograph. I swear he knew that I was taking his photo!

Here is another pest. He was ALSO moving fast, but not quite as fast as the bee was. He is a little OOF. (out of focus)

Those are great pictures!!!! I just figured out my macro lens, when i first got the kit i didnt know anything about cameras just to point and shoot and i thought that this lens was to go far distances so i put it away since i dont really have that much use for them right now then i got it out one day now that i know a thing or two and realized that it was for close up macro shots not long distance ones lol. so i have been practicing alot in the last week or so so here are some of my bugs :) I hope there isnt too many but im proud of them and have noone else to show them too except my kids and they dont care lol.
Bumble Bee and yes they are fast lol

One of my first butterflys i have captured let alone seen lately lol. I noticed after the pic that it is missing part of its wing on the left one.

Little tiny butterfly
http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u116/colelover178/butterfly2.jpg
I thought this was a butterfly till i realized it was brown it might be but i think it is just a moth or something lol but its kinda ugly lol

I hope you like them :)

Yes I do like them. They are great. Bugs are very mean looking up close. lol Hey I am in the same boat as you - nobody in my house cares about what I photograph, so I can have myself to show them too! lol
I did find out with the bee, it was hard to keep him in focus! You would think it would be the "fly" because of his name, but he wasn't as fast as the bee.

The big butterfly was hard to keep in focus too that thing was flying all over the place i am suprised i even got a few before it flew away to never be seen again lol. I wish it was in more focus but i was pretty far away from it so i didnt scare it away. the bee kept flying around from flower to flower so it was hard to get him still lol but i managed to do it ok. I tried a fly the other day but they were inside and didnt turn out good i do better when photographing outside lol. But i am glad that you liked them Thats why i like these forums makes your work seem worth it when you have noone else to show them to. Thanks for the comment!

I agree, it is very nice to have someone to show, and give CC on them. My family could care less! Funny thing is they are all in a camera club with me, and have their own cameras now, and they want me to look at their photos. haha I do a 365 project, where I make it a point to take at least one photo a day (some days I have had to miss due to situations out of my control), so I think they are just tired of me asking them about a photo. hahaha

Hey Lens Baby, that is actually a 'she'.
Apparently she eats the males after mating with her :D
Hmmm what would our mere males think about that?

debbie i think your shots are great even if they arent composed perfect they are still nice. its cool that you got 2 bees in that one shot!! Very well done

Yes Debbie, sorry I missed the two bees. Well done.
I am trying forever to take the native bees that have been nesting in one of my pots for years. They are so tiny and far too quick for me. One day....

06-14-2008, 03:12 PM
Nice shots Debbie - I love the two bee photo. I tried and tried to get one like that the other day, but one of them kept moving on and off of the flower, so I gave up after awhile. :(
Ingrid - my mistake. Ugh, I bet the males run for their life - literally!

Andy, I had no idea you were fearful of bees. Allergy? Nice shot, very difficult for the blighters to stay still long enough to grab the camera.
OK here is my butterfly for today. These are easy to take, they just sit on the ground for so long, you could have lunch with them :) I just noticed you get 2 for the price of 1. There is a fly on the rock as well.
But the second pix, well she is something else - Golden Orb Spider. Yes, I am phobic about them.

06-15-2008, 01:35 AM
oh my gosh that spider is freaky i hope i never see one of those i dont like spiders lol. But it is a great picture very interesting in pictures just not real life :D Wow is all i have to say!

This was another specimen of the Golden Orb Spider and taken from the top. She lived outside our bedroom and was with us for 6 to 8 weeks. She gets to know you and just watches you. She started off tiny and my husband kept feeding her a cricket or whatever a day. She was not aggressive at all and actually gets to know you. Yeh I say. She grew to a large hand size and one night...oh oh, I think a bat got her. As you saw from the previous specimen you can see how beautiful their gold round joints are on their legs. The males are very tiny and she normally has numerous ones hanging around on the perimeter of the web. Yes, they too die when they mate.
The web is enourmous and strong enough to catch birds. It is golden in the sun and normally beautiful. But hers was pretty knocked about over time. It is one spider I am NOT afraid of. Mind you, I would not want to walk into her web.
Apparently in the Middle East they have milked this spider and woven a cloth from her golden web. It is supposed to be the strongest of all. Now I am not certain how much truth is in that, but the mind boggles.

Ingrid,
I am petrified (sp) of Bees and Wasps! I can just about cope with bees if they do not come near me but with wasps I will run a mile! I have been stung twice by a wasp and not had an alergic reaction but one can never tell. I dont want to put it to the test.
I am just really afraid of them. One of the X-Files films has Bees in it. We went to watch it on the big screen as my wife is a big fan of X-files but we did not know these bees were in it. When they came on, I shivered all over and had nightmares after!

OK, Here are a few more "bugs" I found in my garden today.
This first one is a wierd one. I am not sure what it is, but looks kind of scary! There is also a red spider in the pic too :)
http://www.proudphotography.com/forum/gallery/files/7/4/8/dsc_5412.jpg
The second one is one of the gardeners pest! If anyone knows how to get rid of them, please let me know.
http://www.proudphotography.com/forum/gallery/files/7/4/8/dsc_5441.jpg
This little guy is not a very good shot but I was taking them with my Macro lens and the wind was blowing so it's a little out of focus.
http://www.proudphotography.com/forum/gallery/files/7/4/8/dsc_5443.jpg
And finally, I managed to face my fear and capture one of these!!!!! Not brilliant but they dont half move fast and so do I when they come near ;)

Isn't the Internet fantastic.
I take a picture of a bug in my garden. I dont know what it is so I post a picture on a bug website. The next day someone replies and tells me what the bug is! WOW. What on earth would we have done before the internet.
Anyway, for those that were puzzled by my picture as to what it was just like me...... You'll never guess what this fella is......
http://www.proudphotography.com/forum/gallery/files/7/4/8/dsc_5412.jpg
This fella, looks really nasty but infact it is 7 spot Ladybird Lava!
So, as soon as this fella grows into an adult, it will help me with my aphid problem. :)

These two guys help in controlling the bug population.
The first one was in our pond, the second one I cought while weeding the in garden and had my wife hold whilr I took the shot. She was not to thrilled, the snake and her keep moving so it was hard to shot. She droped the snake when it regurgitated a worm and it got away in the grass.

Joseph....the bee is harvesting pollen from palm fronds, just after the "pods" open and before they become palm leaves if that makes any sense.
aslo....you can see the pollen he has gathered up under his front leg

Hi all,
I haven't posted that often, and after finishing the course one of my new resolutions is to participate more in the threats. It is the only way to keep improving, and what better subject than BUGS.
Hope you like the images,
All the best
