OK not sure if you all still have your teddy bears. But it would be fun to see them all. If not....go and borrow the kids or the neighbours. But do find a bear. Worst scenario go out and find a live one ;)

Dressed for Church....this little Bear has watched our goings on for over 20 years now. I'm sure if it could talk, you would all be rolling on the floor laughing...

Here are some real teddy bear photos. Shots I took of a female Grizzly Bear & her 3 cubs. I took these last year (Sept07) in Yellowstone National Park. They came down to the river to feed on an Elk Carcass that had been there for about a week. The shots are not very sharp, the bears were about 100 - 150 yards away across the Madison River. I had a 300mm lens at the time, bought a 500mm when I got back home. Hoping to go back again this fall.

At first - I didn't think I had any bear shots, but then I remembered I took this little guy to Florida with me for my grandson. He went everywhere we went and of course, took pictures to prove it. This bear had quite a vacation!!

Great bears, but surely there must be more out there? Or were you all deprived children?

OK before the week ends, here are the bears I made, as I did not have one when I was a child.
Naturally one of my border collies just HAD to be in one of the shots. The last photo is mere male's 63 year old bear "Ted". The fur one "Grisell" is one I made for him, using my mother's 95 year old fur wrap. Hmmm....time passes by :)

I missed this photo and simply had to share it. It looks like Banjo thought, if I snuggle in close, she won't see me :)

Well, I just had to do something fast for this topic... so I ran downstairs and found them... my childhood teddy bears!

Though they are both precious to me, the one on the left has some extreme sentimental value... it was a Christmas gift from my parents to me before my 6th MONTH on earth!

I had this bear for 3 years and as a baby it was with me near all the time. Of particular note are the ears and body parts that are rubbed raw... I used to grab an ear and rub it against my nose or cheek for so long, that it was worn down to the cloth. The green wollen shoes were made by my mother as the first things she ever learned to knit and were worn by me for a short time. After I outgrew them, they kinda fit the bear and thats where they stayed. After 3 years of me abusing the bear's ears and what not, the mouth started to fray and open. Without me telling anyone anything, I prepared to do surgury to save my little friend:

You are looking at a near 48 year old teddy bear with thread that is 45 years old holding it's mouth together stitched in there by myself when I was but 3 years old. My mom often tells me how surprised she was to see a 3-year old sitting there all serious and concentrating while sewing up my favorite toy, that little needle looking so huge in my small hands. :) Of course I botched it up, but at the time, it looked perfect to me.

The bear to the right (the bigger one) came a month after the surgury of the first bear, but though I liked the new one, they both somehow always ended up near me till I was around 4 or 5 years old, when they stopped being toys and became family heirlooms and placed aside for other things.

Today I look at them both and am very happy that my parents saved them for me to have. Even as I grow past middle age, I will always keep them as long as I am on this earth. :D

To some, they look like old tattered toys, but to me, they represent the love of a mother and a father getting their son his first Christmas present straight from their hearts, even before he could barely speak or walk. To me, they are beyond precious indeed. :)

Jerry - what a precious memory. There aren't too many people that have something this special from their childhood.

Thanks Debbie. It is fully, but those tattered old bears really do have meaning to me.

Funny... now looking at them on my main computer's LCD screen instead of the laptop screen, I see that they are lacking some contrast. Too bad one cannot easily calibrate a laptop screen... even if you do, tilting it one way or another shows different results.
