Joseph - you have few that turned out very well. Where did you take these at? I really like the ones in the third post.

Thanks for the comments Deb and Janine. Deb, I took these at Central Park In Roseville. It wasn't the biggest display in the area, but it was the closes to our house. :-)
To answer your question Janine; The first thing I did is read a little on how others take these type of photogaphs because I have never done this type of photography before. I think they turned out ok for the first try.
I used a tripod, and remote shutter release, my canon 40D and 24-70L. I used an all around good fstop for a wide DOF which was F/11, and used the BULB setting. BULB keeps the shutter open the entire time you hold the shutter release.
I did find that the 24-70 was not wide enough for this type of photography. Or I was just too close to the action. Instead of aiming the camera in the general direction and leaving it, I found I had to constantly move the camera around and follow the mortor trail.
So I would have to move the camera quickly, then when set, I would push and hold the shutter release between 2-6 seconds.
I ended up with about 500 shots or so. I can't wait till next year to try it again. I learned a lot of this first try and know next year will be so much better.
Today Peter posted an artical on this very subject. Here is the link:

Joseph - I know exactly where that's at. My BIL & SIL live about 2 blocks from there. Very nice park.
