New from OZ!

Hi I am Karina and I am new to this site and forum. I'm from Victoria Australia and also totally new to photography. I have NOOOO idea what I am doing, so hope to get some tips and ideas from everyone.

I barely know my camera yet and feel a bit daunted by the whole experience.

My first question is I've noticed when everyone posts a picture they put the details below. I know my camera but I'm unsure of the lens etc...how do I know what they are?

Welcome Karina,
I think you will like the community here, nice friendly people to chat and learn from.

Often photographers are equipment buffs and really have a habit of aquiring equipment. You'll learn your equipment as you learn more. Generally, you'll learn the equipment as you purchase it. I think you are refering to the signature where many list their equipment.

Welcome Karina - in time, you will gain a wealth of knowledge not only about your camera, but how to use it to create wonderful images.

Larry is right about listing equipment with our signature - it's very easy to do. In the upper left corner of the page, click on User CP. It's on this page you can edit your profile and signature.

As far as what you have for lenses, look at the barrel of the lens. It should show what the focal length and aperature range is. I know - very foreign and confusing, but after a lesson or two, it will make sense.

Welcome to the forum! If you click on the link (word) that says USERCP on thetop left of the screen, this will lead you to the user control panel. Just look through the options for signature. Populate that field and save it, this will be text that is automatically put in every message you later type.

Some people like to put in the list of their equipment, I don't do that, because if I did my signatures would be larger than most posts I make, and that would just be annoying (2-3 line post, 10+ line signatire! :p )
