Yummy - nothing better on a hot summer day than cold watermelon (and if you're an adult and imbibe, then soaked in a little vodka).

Since I started this thread - I better post a pic. This was taken a few years ago with grandson #1 and remains one of my favorites.

I love this picture. We were at a friends house for dinner on Canada day. After completing the meal we decided to go outside and make what we all know as "smore's" this child in the picture was so caught up and enjoying the treat, as is very obvious, i think, in her smile and the amount thats on her face.
Hope you enjoy!!

Not really sure how to add the picture...so if it dont work then please someone reply and advise me on how to do this!!

ok it didnt work but all you have to do is click go advanced for the reply and toward the bottom it will say manage attachments and you can upload pictures from your computer under a certain size there is a few ways to do it and if you look in forum jump there is one that says how to upload photos also. cant wait to see it, it sounds so cute

If you are having problems uploading, check your size. There is a size limit. You will have to make a copy and then resize (I always make a duplicate)

This one reminds me of summer. A day of swimming and the goggle marks on the eyes says it all.....

That says summer to me too. :)

Just a couple of comments/questions...

The eyes are a little soft, but that is because the focus zeroed in on the hair, which is nice anad sharp. Focusing on the eyes is a very important aspect in photographing people.

My question is why did you use ISO 1600? Using an ISO setting that high adds a lot of graininess to a picture, dropping it's quality. Was this taken in a dark room?

As a kid I used to love to go swimming. Reminds me of the times I used to look like when I came in, but just with one big circle around the nose and eyes from the diving mask... lol!

I'm still here...just too many things going on at the same time and, since I wasn't born with a silver spoon in my mouth, I also have to work to pay for all these expensive hobbies I have..LOL.

Just thought I'd add my summer photo. Took this on Friday night late. If anyone can give me some great pointers on taking shots like these again, I'd sure appreciate it. I won't get another opportunity till next summer but I'll keep the information on file.

FINALLY had a chance to do something for this challenge, and the thing is, it all happened around midnight. :)

Those of you with kids may know about the books of the saga of the Twilight series from Stephenie Meyer, a 34 year old mother of 3 from Arizona. Well, the 4th book of the saga "Breaking Dawn" was the hit of the summer and happened Saturday at midnight at a release in MANY book stores across the USA and Canada. People dressed up and participated in all kinds of small events just prior to the release. There had to have been 200 people in the place waiting for the grand opening and my sister and niece had to go. I was invited, and took the camera along... just in case.

"Just in case" ended up being my good fortune! Seems there were a few people there with P&S cameras but most were not functioning or giving nice results in the Sodium Vapour coloured lighting. Shooting in RAW let me adjust for the situation a little and I kinda/sorta became the event photographer after being asked by the manager. I told him it would be my pleasure.

Anyways, here are a couple of pics:
1 - The evening started with a few drinks of blood coloured (and other) softdrinks. The books are about vampire, after all... lol (http://www.proudphotography.com/forum/gallery/files/1/0/0/0/j_0001.jpg)

2 - One of the events was that you chose a mask colour and added a ribbon of your choosing to it. (http://www.proudphotography.com/forum/gallery/files/1/0/0/0/j_0002.jpg)

3 - Of course, they had the first 3 books on a central display (http://www.proudphotography.com/forum/gallery/files/1/0/0/0/j_0003.jpg)

4 - A little 3-picture panorama of the question and answer session that my sister breezed through (http://www.proudphotography.com/forum/gallery/files/1/0/0/0/j_0004.jpg). Let me explain... They had a question challenge area where they chose 2 people and asked 25 questions from various parts of the first 3 books. The biggest mistake they made was to ask my sister to be on one of the teams, becuase of the 25 quesitons they asked, she correctly answered 21 of them, missed 2 becuase of a slow response time and did not know the answer to 2 of them. The one-sided performance kinda lightly annoyed the lady asking the questions... lmao!

There was a drawing of a free Breaking Dawn book, and a drawing for a reproduction of a piece of jewelery that one of the prominent characters in the book wore.

5 - The pallet of books were open at 11:59 and people in the 2 very long lines went nuts. There was a countdown for the last 10 seconds and precisely at midnight, the employees went ballistic trying to serve several hundred people all at once. It was a very orderly if rushed moment. (http://www.proudphotography.com/forum/gallery/files/1/0/0/0/j_0005.jpg)

6 - People paid for their books and walked out... but there had to have been about 20 outside already starting to read. By the time I got there, that number dwindled to a dozen or so, but here are a couple of candids (http://www.proudphotography.com/forum/gallery/files/1/0/0/0/j_0006.jpg). This young lady literally ran out, dropped to sit on the ground and started to read. Behind her in the window are several empty boxes from the publisher.

7 - Another candid of a young lady already reading her book (http://www.proudphotography.com/forum/gallery/files/1/0/0/0/j_0007.jpg). I like this picture just because of the position of her feet. A totally candid shot that she never even saw me take.

Today I dropped off the CD with a little paper stating that the photos were not to be used for commercial purposes, and also left with the word of the manager that if they were used in any manner, that I get full credit for them and he asked for my email and other contact info, so that people could send me comments and management could contact me if needed. I thought that was very nice of him!

He then offered me any book in the store for my troubles, and that flabergasted me, as I was doing it for my own pleasure, and I told him so. He insisted, so I agreed, but promised not to not abuse his offer.

So, what book did I get? A photography book of course! For my efforts, I picked out and received "SKIN, The complete guide to digitally lighting, photographing and retouching faces and bodies" for my efforts. I thought that was so nice of him, as I was initially not expecting it at all.

I had a fun time! :D

I used ISO1600 as I just brought the camera and didn't know what the setting was all about.. (I do now) I wasn't too worried about the grainy look. I just love this photo of my son. It is him all year round. Cheeky and full of mischief.....!!! lol

I think this is a wonderful shot Mary. I love the sense of speed you have going there. Looks fast than it was I'm sure. I've always loved these kind of shots. Did you try this same shot in Time Value at different shutter speeds? Not much to really critiqe here. it's very good. I think a composition of the ride more off center(to the right)with more people in the shot(from the left)might be good too. I see these shots from time to time and see people walking around and watching the ride in some of the shots. Might give it a more carnaval atmosphere.

We were out for a SUNDAY DRIVE and it was getting late in the day as we passed this scenic spot. I took this while we were moving so the blurr is from that but I like the look.
Hope you do to.

Welcome to the Proud site nessalh. I am sure you will enjoy it.
What camera are you using, and do you have zoom capabilities.
It would be nicer to see the bird a little closer.
Look forward to more of your shots.
