Hi Sue, well I would agree. The shot outside with that composition would be a challenge for anyone really, the second shot is terrible. It's obvious this photographer doesn't pay attention to details, and just wants to get the shot.
And you are right. Just because you are hiring a professional Photographer doesn't mean they will do a professional job. When it comes to hiring a photographer for a wedding, you really have to do your homeworks. Check referances, look at the photographers work, and make sure they have experiance. And it wouldn't hurt to have a backup plan in case something goes very wrong.
When me and my wife got married a few years back, one os Sue (my wifes) freinds is a pro. As a wedding gift to us, he said he would do our photos. I didn't know him bery well, but agreed. he did an ok job really, and got the shots we wanted, but I didn't think the quality was on a pro level. This is why I hired my Brother in Law to shot the wedding as well. He of course didn't take any money, and his shots were much better. In fact, his wife, (Sue's sister) made a scrapbook long before the wedding, they went to a one hour photo place, and presented us with a complete wedding photo album the next day at the gift openning. It was such a wonderful gift.
In two weeks my niece is getting married. I'm going to shadow the pro, and do the same for her. The scrap book is done except the photos. but we are doing things a little different. I will be leaving right after the posed pictures, and presenting this to them at the dinner that night. Can't wait.

You will have so much fun. This pro that I had pictures up.....they are charging them 2,000 and when I looked at the quality of the photos I flipped out. Their photos are far from professional, and they have been in business for over 30 years. I just do not understand it. Our pro photographer for our wedding accidentally focused on one of the people in the pews face, and we were just blurs. This was not done intentionally either. All of our photos were out of focus. We had a friend there with a point and shoot, and we have excellent photos from her! They look more professional.

Joseph - I think you'll do a great job. I've never had professional photos done when I got married, something I missed out on. I look forward to seeing what you end up with.

I didn't know about putting another photographers photo up. If I could get in trouble for it or not.

Okay - that makes sense. I suppose that would be covered under copyright?

Missed them too, but from what I can gather, it was no loss... lol
Damn, how I wish I could post the ones that I did from the weddings I was a 2nd at... sucks that I had to agree to the terms, but its a small price to pay for what I got every time in return in terms of real life experience and knowledge.
BTW, Sue, if the pictures you posted were from a Flickr site or similar, thats ok to post the link... same with the website, if they have one. Just a single pic or 2 could cause issues, though, if it was a private site or something.
The rest... if they post it on the net in a public manner, and we are not stealing them to make profit from it (HAH! yeah right!), feel free to post away the links! :D
