I really like the second one in black and white. The details are far more pronounced than the first. The first one looks a little too light.

I would agree with the comments above. I like the second one better also because the levels are more in line with what you what. Make sure you don't get things too dark that you loose detail though. But the first one can also look better too.
Here is a quick edit for the first one and see if it looks a little better. I changed the levels some and a little cropping. The cropping may not be what you want, but the tonal range is more balanced. Keep in mind I'm very new to PS and editing. I'm learning this stuff too.

I love the composition of the second one as well and the detail. There is more interest with the angle than what looks to be straight on in the first picture.

Yes I know they are only wheels, but ..... these wheels could do some talking! Great shots. The first one could pass for a high key shot. What do others think? Yes, the second one is more pronounced and jumps at you.

Ok, so silly question here. I just finished the composition lesson. Would #2 fall into the category geometric??
