Need 1st Birthday Photo Tips

So, some friends of mine want me to do a shoot of their boy for his first birthday. I have some good ideas for the pictures, but I don't really any experience getting shots of a kid that young. Are there any sites out there where I might find tips on photographing young children that anyone could recommend? Alternatively, anyone have any first hand tips for me? The shoot is tomorrow evening. Sorry about the short notice.
