I have a hard time finding much on this subject in my owners manual,,,,,,I think it possible to select the size small, medium or large but just what is the manual referring to,does that mean that the image will be to the selected size when uploaded to your PC?
I also find very little on Compression, are they speaking of something like a Zip File?
Whew ,so much to learn and so little time, why didn't i start this hobbie as a young man.

Hi Dick,
JPG & JPEG are compressed image files. RAW & Tiff are uncompressed files. You will get many more JPG files on your card than you will RAW files. There is a trade-off however, there's less data stored to the file and less you can do with a file in post processing that's stored in RAW. The file size is actually the quality of the JPG file you save.
To make it easier when just learning, I would suggest using your largest JPG file. That way you want have to worry about RAW processing your images after you shoot. Just shot them and download for viewing. When you get to know your camera better and learn more about photography, then start shooting in RAW so you can have more creative control.
At first it really seems over-whelming, but it's a pretty fast learning curve and you'll have it done pat in no time. If it makes you feel any better, I just started shooting digital just a year ago. I'm still learning, but my images have really improved. You can visit my blog and see what us newbies to digital can do in a short time. http://www.astonishingportraits.com/blog
