I think this has been discussed before, but I can't find the thread.
I have been on a hummingbird watch for about 2 wks now as we have a female that comes in quite a bit. She frequents two areas of my yard - one in a good light location, another that is shady. I have a thought of setting up the camera close to the good light location and use a wireless from inside to snap shots when she comes in so I don't scare her off. How would I set up something like this or can it even be done?

In theory, it's easy to do if you have the right equipment. I picked up a wireless shutter trigger from www.gadgetinfinity.com and it was quite reasonable (under $50 delivered).
It has a 100 foot range and I tested mine out to about 60 feet and it worked perfectly. Here is the link:

Hope that helps.

Yep what Jerry said. I have a different wireless remote that has about a 40 foot range, and works very well. Make sure you post up some shots of your work on this Deb.

Thanks for the info guys. This is something I'm going to work in this week. I'm on vacation so I'll have plenty of time to sit and watch.

I ordered one from there. I didn't realize it was from Hong Kong. I will not get it for at least 15 days the guy said. We will see. I really need it for class.

I waited 3 weeks to Canada... then again, I ordered with no rush or need.
I'm sorry you were not aware it was from Hong Kong, Sue. Gadget Infinity are very famous in the Strobist group and location comes up in near every second post, so it was no surprise there for me, perhaps I should have mentioned it anyways... apologies!

Oh no problem Jerry. I didn't even think of checking until after my payment was sent. Stupid me! lol They seem like a good company to deal with though! I can't wait to get it. Thanks for telling me about it. I hated every minute of using the two or ten second timer! UGh I was spoiled with the remote that came with the Sony A700! Ok these remotes are they different? They are NOT IR correct?

Received my remote today, just in time for my first photo assignment this semester. I can't wait. Now for a pro lens!

Sue - I think since fall is setting in, I'm going to wait to order the wireless and try shooting hummers next spring/summer. They're starting to head south. Which pro lens are you going for?

I want to find the BEST all around general lens that I can. For landscapes or portraits etc.
