Wonderfully composed Ingrid. I like both versions with the B&W being my fav. Well done.

I love the B&W version, both are good, but it just feels like it should be B&W. This is a great composition and image. Very well executed.

What do you use as a backdrop to get the background completely black like that? Is it an object you placed behind the subject, a certain method of exposure, or both?

Don't laugh but it was a black skirt of mine that I used on the kitchen bench. I did have some black velvet but could not locate it. So there you have it.
In Photoshop I went to exposure and just did a slight gamma correction. Nothing fancy here. Hope that helps.

Very nice. I think the B&W one is perfect. It is very fitting with this photo. I think the B$W shows more detail in the Garlic.

Ingrid, I'm new in here so please forgive me for making a comment for a post that is almost a year old! I just wanted to say I'm impressed with your creativity and the photos' colours are very good both in colour and b&w. Well done!!!!

Thanks Patria and welcome to our lovely group. I don't log on too often, but when I do I post like mad. Cheers from the land down under.
