I'm starting to cover local events in my area in hopes of interest in selling my photo files. I've already had a few sales from a few ski events this past weekend and from a few months ago. I started a new photo share here:

http://public.fotki.com/scotsue/

The best way to view these is to click and open one of the albums, then click on slideshow in the upper right.

I just wanted to post this here for my fellow members to view and hopefully get some feedback. Thanks for looking.

There are tons of awesome pics, Joseph!

Just a fast question... do the event organizers know that you are selling pics of the event? I am pretty sure that unless they give you written permission or have given you the thumbs up in some manner, that you cannot sell the pictures. If they found out that you sold them, they would have portential grounds to sue. At the very least, in Canada and the USA, I believe you will need model releases to sell your pictures.

My law is REAL weak, but this topic has come up often in other forums, and the results were rarely fun. Just look into it and how it affects you and the event organizers of whatever event you are shooting. ;) :D

Thanks for the comments Jerry. No the event corrdinators know nothing of me. However, I'm only selling the photos to the skiers in the photos, not the general public. Thanks for the FYI though and I will do a little reserch on this and get back with some info for those that want to know. One thing I do know on some of the online photo selling sites require a waver from someone that is well known before a photo can be sold.

If you go by the photographers that are always hounding famous people, getting thier shots and selling them for big ching, you would have to think there aren't many rules against this practice when out in public. And I've read that somewhere. In fact some photography sites have city, state and federal laws regarding this that you can download and carry with you in case someone questions you. I think this stemmed from newspapers chasing emergency service utilities trying to get a shot. As it reads, as long as you aren't getting in the way, and abbiding with law enforcement in the area, you have the right to be there and take photos if you wish. This is something I read many months ago and don't know off hand where I got the info. I do have it downloaded though so I will have to look it up.

Joseph - these are great shots. Congratulations on taking that first step. You have certainly captured the sport of waterskiing. And where is Island Lake?

HI Deb, long time, and thank you. :-) Island Lake is in Shoewview about a mile from where I live. Aparently they hold 4 or so big ski events there I'm finding out. Fun to watch. The crashes are scary till you see them pop back up out of the water. Hehe

I have never heard of Island Lake - is that the one just off 694?? I've heard of waterskiers that go to a lake in Shoreview, but never knew the name of it.

Yep that's it. You exit off 694 on Victoria, take a right 1 block.

I know exactly where that's at - driven by it about 1,000 times, just never knew the name. Now that I think about, I think a looooooooooooooong time ago, I went waterskiing there once - back when I was newly married the first time and no kid yet.

Oh the good old days when you had no cares right? Ya that's less than a mile from the home base. By the way Deb, are you doing any shots of the leaves changing this year? I so want to get some good colorful shots this fall. Have to start looking for good spots and keeping track of the timing.

Yes, I do plan on getting some fall shots. Hubby and I going up to Ely not this wkend, but next. We were in McGregor Labor Day and the leaves were just starting to change so hopefully, there will be some color when we get to Ely. I'm also going to a Photo workshop in McGregor the first weekend in October - the same place where I took the grouse shots in April.

Y that's pretty far North when the leaves are already changing some up there and waiting a few more weeks, but I haven't started looking around for a changing dates. But that's quite a drive, so between here and there I think you will be covered. I don't think I'm going that far North. I hope to find something a little closer.

McGregor is only 2 hours. I know I keep going back to this, but what about the area between Taylors Falls and Stillwater?? That area is usually POPS with color along the bluffs.
