I recalled a long while back that I had mentioned that I was going to try to do a little architectural photography. I kinda mixed in night and building photography with the desire to show a little bit of what Old Montreal appears like after dark.

Night photography is always challenging, and I increased the challenge by not using a fast lens. I used the Nikon 18-200 F/3.5-5.6 lens and was pleasantly surprised.

All pictures were taken hand held without a monopod or a tripod.

Flickr slideshow is visible HERE (http://flickr.com/photos/jerryph/sets/72157608308701858/show/).

Let me know what you think. :)

You captured it very well. I especially like the last 3. You must have a steady hand. :)

Jerry - I'll keep that in mind the next time I'm out for nite shots. Wine does have a relaxing effect though.

Very nice set of shots Jerry. It's interesting, as you took them hand held with a normal lens and the results are very easy to look at. Excellent result for the challenge you set yourself.

Great job for being hand help Jerry. If I tried something like that it would look the camera was mounted on a top.

Thanks so much for the kind words! :)

Montreal has some things that you cannot get anywhere else in the world... like the world's largest underground that is heated and you can literally walk for MILES going from store to store in nothing more than a short sleeved shirt in the harshest of Canadian winters. It is so big that each winter portions of it are sealed off and a full length marathon is held *completely* underground.

Of course it has something that almost any woman enjoys... some incredible places to shop!

This area is about 5 blocks away from where I work, but of course I can come here and visit their food court via the underground and not even need to change from my summer shoes... lol

Montreal is also (I recently found out), a very photographer friendly city. In the picture below, note that marble effect on the walls, and down the steps... thats not marble... those are pictures donated to the city of Montreal by it's citizens and then sealed into the area and covered with a protective plastic coating (estimated 10 year lifespan)... they have about 5 miles of corridors and stairways filled with these photos from people everywhere!

Jerry - reminds of the Mall of America, but our Mall has an indoor theme park.

Great Photos Jerry, and the fact that you shot them without using a tripod/monopod makes them all the more impressive.
Montreal looks great. And an undergrous shopping mall sounds fantastic :)
