Hi Everyone,
I was just wandering what is the best way to store photos other than on computer, USBs or on Disc?
I would love some feed back.
thanx :D

Scoz - I use an external hard drive and then backup to disc as the collection grows.

Hard drives are mechanical devices with limited life spans measured in hours. A good DVD has a guaranteed lifespan of 50-150 years.
Personally, I do both (and more). If you do a search here, this is a discussion that has come up before. It contains some info in more detail pertinent to your question. :)

Like Jerry, I do both, I have an external HardDrive and back up to this every time I add new photos' but also write out to DVD very frequently as a further backup.

I backup to 1 internal HD, and 2 external ones. I know I should put them in DVD also, but haven't yet.

This is what I do (only for my important photos)
1) put on the drive on my internal
2)send to an external
3)make two dvd copies (or more if it is something really important) ONLY BECAUSE THE DVD CAN GET SCRATCHED OR CORRUPT AND THEN YOU ARE OUT OF LUCK!
4)online storage

USB is good compact storage so are SD cards, unclip them straight from the camera to storage and clip in a new card

I store to both my computer and a external hard drive. I have a large hard drive on my computer that is partitioned only for my photos. I have put some on disc, but that takes time and lots of disc. As someone said, hard drives will die

Your right and I have had that happen! Hard drives die, dvd/cds get scratched or corrupt, and usb and compact flash cards/sd cards go bad as well. That is why multiple different methods are always help. Just think if you do a photo shoot that is very important only to find out for some reason it was gone. I have lost photos that have had a lot of sentimental value to me and I can never replace them.

There is one other thing I do that I forgot to mention.
Last year before I did a complete restore of my main system, I thought hard about how I can better protect my files, and at the same time make it easier to restore in the future if and when I have to do it again.
I installed a second interior HD. A big one. When I restored I put all system and programs on drive (C). All my personal files go on the second drive (I). So now if C gets corrupt, or I restore for whatever reason, I won't have to restore my personal files also. Just restore the system drive, reinstall the programs on that same drive, and there I go.
I'm not saying the second HD is imune from problems or issues too, but not having my files on the same physical drive as the system is one more line of protection.
