What to do with Lens Caps

You want to take some pictures so you take off the lens cap. What do you do with it? This may seem like a simple question, but can you find the cap when you're done shooting? Ah ... not so simple after all now is it?....

Loose them! Well thats what i seem to do. Tried plastic tie on cables which held lens but they dangled down and were more of a nuisance and a distraction.

I carry a small baggie and put the cap in that BEFORE I put them in my shirt pocket. If I am wearing a shirt without a pocket, it goes into my pants.

Never, ever put a bare lens cap into your pocket. Want to know why? Dust! Try it once for an hour or so, then take it out and look at it. I was surprised at what I almost put back over the UV filter of my lens.

Now I just carry a small plastic bag, and put it in there. I am guaranteed that I will never put a dusty lens cap over my lens (UV filter, more appropriately).

How funny!! When I got my 100-400, I showed my neighbor and when I came home to put the lens away, I couldn't find the cap. Searched high and low for 2 days, finally bought a new cap. And yes, I'm the one that always puts the lens cap in my back pocket so I don't lose it.

Anyway, as I waited for the new cap and retraced my steps, I thought maybe the neighbor took the cap off and did what I usually do - so I called him. And sure enough - he had the cap. And now I have a spare.

Jerry - I will start carrying that little baggie with me. I often wondered why my lens get so dusty when I took the cap off and now I know. Thanks for the tip.

I wear the cargo pants and shorts. I always end up with pockets full of stuff. Not only do I end up with lens caps, lenses end up in pockets too. Every now and then the wife finds a lens cap in the wash machine and I have no ideal how it got there. :D

Jerry - I actually did the same thing...I stuck one in my pocket and when I took it out I looked at it, and freaked out. I was getting dust on my lenses and didn't figure it out until I decide to look at that cap (which was by accident)

Am I the only one that put it in my Bra? lol It might be a mum thing, everything goes in the Bra, Hands when they want a feed, tissues and yep Lens caps :o

You are funny Pixie, I am not blessed with enough room to do that, or I would be all over it ... HAHA :)

I think this is the part wear I made the boys want to cover their ears (or eyes on this part) lol
