Photoshop Question

Hey everyone,

This may be a dumb question and if so, I sincerely apologize..

When I try to do some work in photoshop either cloning or trying to add a mask, I get a message stating the photo is locked and I am unable to perform the requested action.


How do I unlock it and how does it get locked to begin with??

I believe you should duplicate the layer, then work off the copy that isn't locked. That should do it. You should work from a different layer than the background layer anyway just in case.

thats correct copy as new layer and work on that which you should do anyway so you don't damage the original
