EXIF is a file that your camera puts into your image and you can access it with most image editing software. In PS look under file menu drop down to file info.

If you do a search for EXIF viewers on Google, you will find a slew of them that can access and display it for you.
EXIF is not really a file that is added, its more like data collected from camera settings that is added to the data that comes out of your camera. It is a defined standard. There are also applications out there that can modify it... so do not rely on it for security reasons, it's best used as a somewhat reliable source of camera settings taken at the time the pic was created.

Thanks guys - i appreciate the info. So when I upload an assignment in JPEG format - will the EXIF data still be there or is it only accessible in RAW files?

It is excessible in JPG files unless the application that you use strips it. For example if you use MSPaint, it strips the EXIF data. Other applications won't, others give you the option.
Look for KUSO EXIF viewer, download and install it. It lets you see if there is any EXIF data in a picture or not.

If you use photoshop, and do "save as web", it will strip the EXIF. If you just do "save as" and choose jpg, the EXIF will stay.
