Well, I finally had a chance to put the new D700 through a few pictures, and of course I had to go back to one of my favorite places (St Joseph's Oratory here in Montreal), to shoot because it is dark and the D700 is supposed to be good at high ISO.
That was an understatement... I took pics ranging from ISO 800 to 6400, with most in the 1600-3200 range and was impressed with how clean the shots came out.

I'm not really looking for CC, just wanted to share some (what I think are) incredible pictures in a very challenging environment. :D

The kindest and cutest of pups we ever had, but also the dumbest, God love her... lol
Daisy is going on 15 years old, and trust me, when we doll her up, she prances around and knows who the princess is! :D

Oh, here is something interesting. The D700 has a full 35mm sized sensor (FX) and you are supposed to use lenses that support that full frame, however, if you slap on a DX (cropped sensor) lens, it would leave you this huge round black area around the picture becuase the sensor can capture a picture much larger than the lens can provide.
To address this, the D700 has a "cropped mode" so that DX lenses can be used, however, the downside is that your pictures drop from 12MP to 5MP becuase you are using only a small part of the sensor. All the wide-angle pictures you see in my photostream are from a Sigma 10-20mm DX lens and are all 5MP pictures. That's some heady proof that one doesn't need a million megapixels to get a nice picture unless you do a lot of cropping or print out your pictures in sizes above 16X20 inches.
Thanks for the kind words, everyone. :)

Sweet puppy! I bet she's very entertaining with the little bell on her collar. My dog would work it into her "reminding us" routine to get her a treat!

Jerry - she doesn't look a bit spoiled. Very cute, though.

BTW Jerry - your photos are stunning. I am so jealous. I've had my new camera a little over a month and have taken about 50 shots.

I am getting there, its a long, slow and wonderful trip. :)
Oh, and I am on under 2 weeks and just about to break 1000 pics with the D700. That is to be expected, though. I am getting to know it slowly and should be ready to do a little public portraiture at the strobist meeting coming up in about 8 days.
Thank-you for the compliments, Debbie. :)
