F/Question

Just learning and stumped by something probably quite elementary to many......
Question:
Playing with my Canon XTi with a 18-55mm 3.5-5.6 lens trying to get familiar with it.....
In manual mode I cannot get the f/ to less then 5.6. It'll go from f5.6-36.
What happened to 3.5?:cool:
Sorry if this seems a silly question but I am a beginners beginner.....truly...!

In case anyone else was wondering the same thing....here is the answer to my question.....thanks to some really awesome people at Canon's Digital Photography Forum.

"The f/3.5 will only be available at the wider end of the lens. So you'll only get it when you're near or at 18mm"

"At 18mm the fastest aperture is f/3.5, but as you zoom it gets slower eventually getting to a max aperture of f/5.6 at 55mm"

All so simple.......if you know.....lol.....I'm working on it!!! :)
