I have had a 3 mega pixel camera for the last 2 years, and it has recently been having some problems. So for Christmas I am getting a new one, but we are short on cash.
Has anyone tried the Nikon Cool Pics camera? It is 8 megapixels.
I just want to make sure that what I get has a more crisp quality than my 3 mega pixel Kodak. Will the 8 megapixels make it better? Or is the lense that matters? Its only $100.00, so it works for now, but I eventually want to get a Nikon D8 or D9.
Let me know what you think!

I have the Nikon D40 and I would personally use any product Nikon came out with. I have been very happy with them.
I do have several friends who have the coolpix cameras and absolutely love them. They do take great photos
Just my own humble .02

I am an avid Nikon user, and they make incredible dSLR cameras, however, they kinda lack in the point & shoot catagory when compared against the competition.
Megapixels mean absolutely nothing nowadays. This is just marketing hype to try to get people to buy the "bigger" camera. Most people do not need more than 5MP where on a good camera, you could print out a good quality picture up to 10 X 12 inches!
More important things are quality lenses, quality sensors and features that you are looking for in a camera, not just who has the most megapixels. Let me give you an example... the 2 pictures below were taken on a high end dSLR camera/lens combination, yet are both ONLY 5 MP.
In terms of who has the better dSLRs, the top 2 are Canon and Nikon thought there are other companies like Sony and Pentax that are doing ones just as good. In the point and shoot game, Nikon is not faring so well, and IMHO fall to third place behind Sony and the #1 spot for P&S cameras goes to Canon.
As you advance in your knowledge, you will need to make good camera choices, and though for some this part is just annoying, for the person who is into photography, doing the research themselves for what is the best camera for their needs is very satisfying and really fun, and you end up learning a lot as well.
When I made the decision to get a new camera, I researched long and hard, did searches on the internet, read reviews and visited several camera stores to hold the camera and test it for ergonomics (how it feels in my hand) as well as taking a few test pictures.
I make the entire process from research to ownership very fun and part of my photography! :)

Thank you both for your replies! They were very helpfull!
So is there a cannon camera that would be better all together than the Nikon, that would be around $100.00? I have done some research, the camera's I really want are all around 5 and 600 dollars, so that may be aways down the road, but my fingers are to snap happy to live without a camera until I can get a nice one.

Again, google is your friend. :)
look for reviews and tests of the camera you are searching for. More info and faster than waiting for someone here to post. But if someone does have something to say, they definitely will. :)
