1.) For the 3 categories of photos that we are to submit (Landscape, portrait, and uncategorized), are they to be the "original" photos, or can they be touched up? I have a very limited knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, and have started tinkering with that in addition to exploring my camera. As of now, all of my pictures have had very basic adjustments done to them - white balance adjustments/corrections, exposure manipulations etc. Nothing major, but just clean-ups. Is that okay?

2.) For the Landscape (nature) shot, does the photo have to be strictly of a landscape (ie forest, lake, ocean, mountains etc.) or would buildings etc. *within* the photo be acceptable as well?

3.) The instructions say that the size of all 3 photos should not exceed 8MB, but the maximum upload file size is 10MB. Should I still stick to the 8MB, or has there been a typo somewhere along the way?

Thanks in advance for all your help!

Hi and welcome to our photography home.

1) As far as I know you can post process any photos you submit for grading. PP is such a huge part of photography these days, it's hard to imagine doing otherwise, but it's not a requirement.

2) You might want to email admin for this one.

3) This isn't a hard rule. It's better to use a larger photo so detail doesn't get washed out. The instructor talked to me about this once and said he wished a few of the files were bigger in this respect. He also said to me once don't worry about the size so much, that it's better too bog than too small. Heck I think one of my submittions were 5 megs in size by itself.

The purpose of the pictures is to evaluate your skill level as a photographer, nothing more.

I do not think they will dump your picture if it is a cityscape as opposed to a landscape becuase you may live in the midle of a metropolis and are transportation challenged and cannot make it out into the countryside... lol

Post your best, do your best and take it from there! :D
