New year behind the corner and a great time for some fresh ideas for POTM from our respected members. Please use this thread to suggest what you would like to see in the competition next year - suggest a theme. It can really be anything (within a reason) that you believe could spice up the competition and make it more interesting in 2009. So let's put our thinking caps on...

How about:
a.) liquids, flowing or still, large or small
b.) reflections
c.) weather
d.) contrasts - city vs. country, large vs. small, black vs. white etc.
e.) opposites

How about a historical theme, a specific time period maybe too difficult for everyone to find a subject so maybe just history in general.

Or maybe something associated with a particular country or continent.

How about horoscope symbols.

Food/drink

just a few thoughts

Very good suggestions so far Bryan and Laura.

Since this site is based on photography courses, and specifically the basis course, I would like to see a few contests that keys on information taught within the course.

I think Bryans idea of opposites/contrast is a great idea. I think this is one of the harder themes of photography and would make for an excellent contest.

I also think that with the winter months setting in for many of us, something that can be accomplished indoors by anyone might be appropriate. Like macro, and like Laura suggested, Food/drink. Something along those lines.

Thanks for the thread admin.

Like the contrasts and food/drink.

What about:
1. Deliberate Underexposure/Overexposure
2. Start or End of Day
3. Nightscapes

Also, panoramas would be great to see!

Since it's almost Christmas (and this is so cliche), how about Christmas lights?? That's my one and only thought for the day.

Other thoughts:

- portraiture (of course... lol)
- flash effects photography
- macro photography
- comedy in nature
- comedy in your own home
- "uh-oh" moments in life
- Emotions (anger, sad, happy, confused, bored, surprised, etc...)
- architecture, weird and different angles

"Eccentric" Topics
- Fire and Ice
- Earth and Water
- "sexy" pics (without being offensive and no nudes)
- Those 70's style shots (bring back those bad hair and disco clothes back... lol)
- The "olden days", age your pics to look 100 years old
- "Fool the Viewer" Is the picture really what it appears to be, or not?
- Photo "mistakes" done on purpose (ever try to get massive red eye on purpose? Ever focus on the wrong thing on purpose? break all the "rules? here, but with a specific goal and the pic still has to be interesting and viewable!)

Dang, I could go on and on and on... :D

Portraits is my favorite too. I am actually trying to get a studio set up in my home. It would be great pracitice!! I like the liquids idea, contrast, whatever we can find in our home, or winter wonderland, or weather. All of the previous ideas on other posts are great I think!

Hi,
I love all of saykimchi's suggestions - especially liquids and reflections! I am new here so I don't know all of the categories that have been done in the past, but I'd like to suggest architecture too.:)
