In the words of that great philosopher and bon vivant, Ward Cleaver, who once said, "You're never too old to do goofy stuff!", well, here's some goofy stuff! :)

very artistic and cool. So what was your method of production. lol Please tell. It looks like a glow light.

Thanks, LB. Actually it's lightpainting using an LED light. I'd be happy to hunt down the step x step for this if you'd like, just let me know. In the meantime here's another.

Light painting is a ton of fun, and something I want to do more of. I bought some sparklers and plan on doing some light painting for Christmas... I have a few ideas that I want to try out. :)

The 2 shots above are very nice!

The technical basics are:
- Use a longer exposure time of several seconds
- click the shutter button, and paint what you want with the light
- flash the scene to "freeze" it using using rear sync flash or a hand held manual or delayed flash at or near the end of the shutter time.

A friend and I basically walked through the process outside on a cold day and came up with this:

It's not exactly the same thing, but we used a nunchaku with a sparkler taped on the end and rear sync flash.

I have only used a flashlight so far, but I lOVE the top photo. This is something that I want to play around with more.

LB, I did an extensive "How'd You Do That?" - Red Vine Neon Photos tutorial here

that you might find helpful.

This one is probably my favorite:

Thanks Jerry. I'll definitely have to try your technique about stopping action like this with a flash. Something I don't know anything about but sounds intriguing. Look forward to your Christmas light painting. :)

I like the second one. I tried light painting once in the dead of winter and fairly cold. It was a lot of fun - on my list of things to accomplish.

Thanks everyone.

I live in the Pacific Northwest where it rains quite a bit so it was some rainy season fun. Kinda slowing down my shooting schedule for the course at the moment.

Anyway, just in case you missed it and are at all interested I have a link to a tutorial I did in my above post. Also there are some flickr links in the tutorial where they have a bunch of other good information and loads of examples on light painting.
