I just upgraded from Canon Rebel XT to Canon 50D and I still have my old 420EX flash, can I use the Canon Speedlite 420EX to the Canon EOS 50D? Will it work, I don't want to try it as it might not work or worse destroy my new camera.

A 420ex is a very capable flash and will work great with your new camera. Congrats on the new purchase. How do you like it so far?

Yep...fully compatible...if you go here you can check. Go to the very bottom right hand corner and put your camera body and then the type of flash. You can also do this is the lens selection for your camera etc. I find it helpful. Let me know what you think.

The other sections if to review camera bodies, flash units and lenses. I like the lookup option for the lens and flash options at the bottom to see if they will work together. This site is for Canon EOS systems, but there are some articles about other things. When you are finished with the lookup, click on the tab at the top and go to the homepage. It is cool. There is a dictionary there and everything. Very cool.
www.photonotes.org is the homepage, and then the lookup section is the tab for lookstuff up. You can just click on the link up above.

Thank you.
I love my new camera, the LCD display looks great. The photo quality is way better than my digital Rebel XT. I took indoor photos last Christmas with some shots where the ISO was set to 2500 (yes I use my 420EX flash and it did worked with the camera), the images were sharp and no grain.
The auto focus in low light is a little slow (still faster compared to my digital Rebel XT) but this is not a big deal for me since it focuses very well in normal to well lighted subjects.
