Lloyd, I've never heard of Phoenix, but the fact that they are so much cheaper than others would suggest low quality to me.
Umago, I have a sigma lens (55-200)its very good. Would definatly buy Sigma again.

Phoenix lenses are old mirror style lenses of extremely low quality. High magnification, but very high distortion and very very slow. Most are in the F/9 and smaller aperture categories. Try taking a picture with your camera and lens at F/9... most will be so blurry and dark as to be useless. Now add some massive distortion and magnification to the mix, and that is a mirror lens.

I've never heard of a Phoenix and I've had 2 Sigmas and returned them both. Horrible quality in my opinion. I know others have had Sigmas and loved them but they just wern't for me.

Lloyd - I think this will be a case of you get what you pay for. Save your pennies for the Canon or better quality.
