I took this photo on a trip to Fremantle. I've never had the chance to play with B&W before and this is prob the best pic from the day. Please feel free to CC as I'd really like to get a grasp of B&W.
Cheers,
Bully.

I think this is a GREAT photo for B&W. I would Contrast the heck out of this pic along with keeping the sky with different shades as it is.
I would also play with splitting the picture into the upper part of the building and the lower and seeing what the pic looks like with different contrasts and brightness on each half.

It's a nice perspective, with loads of texture, which really contributes to b&w. I agree it could use a little bit more tonal range - particularly the midtones could use some more punch.

ok ok ok. Here we go. This is exactly what I need guys so here are some more questions.
"tonal range" and "midtones" are we talking about the light histogram here??
I am a total Photoshop virgin and I'm reading as much as I can about these topics so any small pointers(I won't waste your time with tutorials) are appreciated.
Cheers,
Andrew.

Basically, yes. The tonal ranges refers to the difference between brights and darks, and how much gradation there is between there.
The two best tutorials I know on this topic (if anyone knows more, let me know:) ) are these:
Histograms, from Luminous Landscape: http://http://www.luminous-landscape.com/tutorials/understanding-series/understanding-histograms.shtml
Photoshop levels and curves, from Chromasia: http://http://www.chromasia.com/tutorials/online/curves/
Let me know if that helps at all.

Hi again everyone.
I had another go at B&W shots on the weekend.
I played with the histogram this time using Adobe Lightroom. I adjusted the overall exposure and also the black areas.
Your CC is much appreciated once again.
Cheers,
Andrew.
