It seems I have noticed that a lens with a lower spec f/# is a more expensive lens as a rule,if so why.

They are more versatile. They let more light in. Think about the manufacturing of the aperatures. They are amazing how they work. I can't imagine the process of making these. It sure would be cool to see.

Everything Lensbaby said, and also it takes better quality glass and manufacturing to make a lens with a wider maximal aperture. But when you use one, it's nice . . .
