Did a few water drops yesterday after a few weeks away from the camera. These were done with milk, and a little food coloring.

More new ones can be found here:

Thanks for looking.

It looks like a marble sitting on liquid. That is awesome.
Perhaps you will tell me how you are getting such a nice drop or is it just getting lucky.
I doctored up one of mine. What do you think about the exposure levels in this one.

Thanks Peeper. I think your photo here may have been as worked on as much as you can as far as exposure. If you raise the exposure anymore you blowout the highlights too much and make it worse. I think it looks great. There maybe other things you can do in PS, but I'm no expert in that. What I would do on your next water drops are check the histogram and make sure it is well balanced after a few shots, then continue. I would like to hear about your setup.

My set up is as primitive as you can get. I have camera on tripod with remote shutter, Camera set to around f11, and shutter around 1/250, with external flash corded and placed a table, I use bowl/saucer/cup, use a tabletop tripod with an eye dropper taped to it, water color, mile, coffee, any liquid that has some interest.

My technique is simple too: while holding the remote shutter, I squeeze the eye dropper and try and time the drops hitting the plate/bowl/cup. My camera can take 6.5 shots per second so that helps, but depending how dark the liguid is/gets, then flash might not keep up. The darker the liquid gets, the slower the flash is to regenerate.

On this shoot, and the next few I'm going to work on getting a drop to hit the column of water coming up from another drop. I caught a few on this set, but want to try more of these.

I've visited site that have unbeieveable water art. Some setups have motion trips that fire the camera when a drop trips the beem. I would love to set something like that up, but right now, I love doing it the hard way. It's very rewarding as you know. And yes, the way my set up is, there is a lot of trial and error, and some luck. On this shoot I took around 300 frames to get a few dozen I could work on.

Let me know about your set up and post more when you get them. It's nice to talk to someone else that does these. There are only a few of us that have this interest it seems.

Joseph that is the most gorgeous photo that I have seen from you (as far as liquids) I love the whole concept of the food coloring in the milk, and the drop is perfect!!! This is one of my favorite things to photograph, but I can never get them to turn out good like yours.

Thank you so much Sue, nice comments. When I first went through them I didn't see too much I liked. I went through them again after I "broke the set down" and there where a few keepers in there. I'm very happy with this one in particular.

I just got done tearing everthing down from doing a few more. I hope if=t works out like the last set, cause I didn't see much I like in there. Thanks again Sue.

Joseph - this is amazing. Now you need to get your daughter in some of these shots. I try something like this and end up with a mess.

Thank you all very much. I'm glad you all liked it. This is one of the first photos ever in the last two years of photography where I can honestly say I wouldn't do anything different to it. Maybe in a couple weeks I'll load it up in PS and see what I can change. :-)

Deb, how so? You mean get my daughter relection in the shot? Man, the only way I could do that is to have my wife hold her hands behind her back and duct tape her to a chair. hehe

A stunning image, Coffee! You do such an awesome job of capturing these water macros. I'll give it try, someday....when I have more time....and am less rushed....hopefully while I'm still able to get up and down. :)

Joseph that is seriously one awesome droplet. Wow, looks like marble and so perfect. Love the sound of your set up. One day, I might just have to try this. The list goes on and on of 'must do' things. Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge and creativity. Always a joy for me :)

Oh this is so beautiful, right down to the last ripple. I am reminded of the sixties "tye/dye fashion"
