Hi,

I'm a newbie to the forum and have only just begun the online course yesterday (I know Nuuuu-sink!!!! Too much Hogan's Hero's as a kid ;P).

I've finally decided to upgrade from my Kodak P850 (I think that's what it is?) to a DSLR and just thought I'd get some expert opinons on the matter...ie...please help!!! :D

I've done a little bit of online research and several cameras in my price range seem very similar but the one I'm leaning towards at the moment is the Canon EOS 450D DSLR...

Does anyone have any other suggestions or any personal tales to tell with regards to their own super duper camera?

Many thanks in advance!!
Have a great weekend everybody!!

the best thing to do is to go look at all of them, hold them, love them(kidding)and see which one is the best in in your hands. One of them will suit your eye better.Make sure there's many lenses and optional equipment available and its not going off the market.Cameras are changing soooo fast and with the current economy, the price points are dropping substantially so look really well.Your $$ goes along way now. Many people need $ too and you can pick up super cameras for cheap.Just be careful if you do the latter. My personal opinion is ,I love Nikons.Theyve got some great cameras coming out currently and they will suit you well until youre more advanced.(D90)ok thats enough from me ,I love to ramble on!!!

I have the Canon XSi (450) and really like it. It is easy to use and fits well for me. I thine Eyevan's suggestion to go somewhere where you can look and hold and use them will give you alot of insight. I read all the reviews online, Amazon, etc. before making a final decision. I don't know much about Nikon, but my cousin takes fabulous nature and bird photos and loves his. I was looking only at Canons because I already had an old Canon film camera and I wanted to be able to use lenses on both.

Also, the idea to buy secondhand is also a great one. I bought mine from Craigslist from someone who was upgrading. It was in perfect condition and I was able to see it and try it out before committing. Because it was "used" the price was really reasonable and I also got some extras that would have cost much more if I bought them from a store.
