Hi guys,

After reading "this may sound bad but..." I thought I'd better introduce myself!;)

I'm Steve, a medic living and working in London and I bought my 1st DSLR this month.

I've always loved photography and have had some decent hand-me-down film SLR's in the past but have never really known what I was doing! Hence I've signed up to the PP beginners course and I have to say it has really depressed me realising just how much I don't know! The plus side is that I'm loving learning about it all and the course has really inspired me to get out and take more photos just for the hell of it!

Looking at the photos people have taken here I have to say I've been blown away by some of them. A lot of people here claim to be amatures but to a real novice like me some shots look easily good enough to be Pro!

Like no doubt everyone here I have a manic work and social life so finding time to up load photos and reply to posts can sometimes slip down the list of priorities but I really look forward to learning from you all and if there’s anything I can help with I will. Admittedly the questions will probably have to be about the human anatomy or Arsenal football club if I'm to be of any use at all!

I haven't quite got to grips with the whole site and forum yet as I'm not really a forum sort of dude, so please forgive me if I come over rude or incompetent, only the latter is true!

Well enough of my inane rambling, I've been working like a dog since I bought my camera and apart from a few test shots of the cats, today is the 1st day I get to go out and see just how bad a photographer I am! Wish me luck!

Steve.

Hi Steve, welcome to the forum and course.
I haven't been taking photos long, I remeber picking up my new dslr thinking now I can take great photos, it was a bit a shock when they weren't very good. However this is a great course and great forum, I feel I have learnt so much in the past couple of months. It can be a bit intimidating posting photos on here when there are so many great photos on here.
Anyway, looking forward to seeing your photos...

Welcome to the group, Steve. I remember buying my first dslr...I knew nothing about them. I had an Olympus P & S but had never taken it off auto mode, even though it did have manual. The only reason I moved up to the dslr was because of the shutter lag on the Oly. I just wanted to be able to take pictures faster. Boy, was I in for a rude awakening....I've now had my Sony a100 for 3 years and still don't know what I'm doing most of the time. But...I love taking photos and being able to capture my grandkids in split seconds has made the transition worth the trouble!

Enjoy your stay here...hope to hear more out of you.
