Ok I see some have been looking for a new weekly challenge so i looked around for ideas and i found this one. You have to look up at the object you are shooting. The idea is to get your shot from a different perspective which is looking up. Cant wait to see what you guys come up with.

Also i have no idea what number we left off on so i started new numbers and hopefully we can keep it going this time. Its a fun thing to do.

GOOD LUCK ALL!!

I will start it off - Sometimes we tend to forget about looking up. I shot one a while ago looking up at a big tree fern.

Here is something out of the norm. I was laying on the floor in my house next to my verticle blinds and thought that the way the light was going through it looked very geometrical.

So this is me laying on my back looking up at my blinds.

As usual, some excellent photos! Congratulations to all. My contribution is not a particularly good shot, but is more of a curiosity. It was shot a few years ago and had to be taken at an awkward angle. It is a false dome in a cathedral in the citadel (Victoria) on the island of Gozo, which is part of the Malta archipelago. I thought it was interesting because it is really just a painting on a flat roof (ie the dome does not really exist). However, it looks so real you would not know if someone did not tell you. I hope this fits the specifications.

Cheers,

Instead of using the link to the photo you see at the top, bring up the picture in your gallery, then right click and choose properties. Use the link you see there to paste into your thread.

Yes, if you are just posting the link to your shot. If you want your picture to show within your thread without having to click a link, click on the mountain symbol, then past the link to your picture there. That way your picture will be part of the message, and not just a link.

Like this:

Yes, I do too. It gives the tree a kind of grandeur and reminds me of the smallness of mankind in the scheme of things.

Thought I should add another one. This is one in the Centre of Sydney.
Looking up at Centrepoint Tower (or Sydney Tower).
Clive, you have some lovely photos taken fom up the top of this tower. There is also a "rotating floor" restaurant, so everyone gets the full 360 view. The little black bits on the right side at top is a balony for those who are brave.

Well, here goes my first post.
I took this somewhere last year in the central train station of Antwerp (Belgium). It's a view directly up at the dome which had just been unveiled after years of restoration. The curves in the corners are the blinds they used to "unveil" it and I like to think they add a very nice detail to the whole.
Hope you like it as much as I do :)

i like this shot was it photo shopped.take a look down in the bottom left hand corner and compare it to all the other corners which to me is a little distracting.if you cant see what i mean its a little bit that has some light on it yet the other corners dont to me would look better if that corner was complety black to match the other corners and make it look more clean.i like the photo though.but then again who am i to judge or criticize its better then what i have shot .lol.

Hi All,
I am just getting back in to my photo course after being idle for a while so I decided to go out today and take some photos by the park and got some great shots of skydivers. These were all taken with my Sony VCL-DH1758 telephoto conversion lens attached and almost full zoom.

Hi Mary, I have a 40-150mm zoom on my camera which was at full zoom when I took the picture. I know now what to tell the good lady to buy me for Christmas (A more powerful zoom lens)I'll have another go at cropping it.

05-29-2009, 08:58 AM
Actually Kaye I don't know what was going on when I took the shot. There were three choppers hovering over Parliament at the time, I think one or two demonstrations were happening at the same time. The good lady and myself were sat in Trafalgar Square watching the world go by.

ladyups

The crop is ok Len but you should have left a little space on the right side to give the heli a place to fly in. Don't crop it completely square.

Len, I think the slightly bigger version is better. He certainly does seem a long way away, so therefore a great shot considering this. (Unless you go and buy HUGE zoom).
I hope you don't mind, but I did a quick edit & crop, but it did lose some quality with this edit. (I'm not really sure what happened to his tail..!

I was on a boat at the time moving pretty quickly so was the bird was, so not bad all in all.

Len, I think I agree. I must learn this angle and maybe my tummy may disappear just like the bird's tail!!!

Hi Mishele,
Welcome to Proud. It does take a little while to get to know your way around.
Firstly, the only competition is POTM (Photo of the Month). To access this, Click on Photo of the Month at top of home page, then Link to POTM. You will then see small icons of pics with the Month beside it. The current one will be at the top. You can enter photos in POTM, but there is always a certain theme to follow.
Secondly, Weekly Photoshots are threads put in by the Proud members. It gives us a "challenge", or an idea if you like of something to go and shoot. It is great seeing what everyone comes up with.
Thirdly, in the middle of the home page you have general talk.
At the bottom third of page there is "Photo Critique Corner". You can post a new thread to any of these categories eg. Nature & Animals. Other members can comment/critique your photo, which is great and how we all learn.

I hope this helps you a little. Feel free to keep asking questions. Looking forward to seeing some of your photos.

It was taken on Bank Holiday Sunday when we went to London for a couple of days.

He wasn't way up high, but I did have to zoom in as much as I was able. Considering he was moving and I was on a boat that was moving (river Thames) holding camera freehand I don't think it's too bad a shot.

Thanks Kaye. The "fireworks" is actually grass growing on the top of the structure lit up by the early morning sun. Port Arthur is a great place to photograph, a lot of ruins, different coloured and textured stonework ect.

From then on, anyone can add their own shot to that theme. You can go back and bring up an old theme, and add your photo. It is good, as it gives us some ideas of something different to try to shoot.

So feel free to add to any of the older Weekly Photoshots, or make up a theme of your own and post it to a New Thread in Weekly Photoshots with your photo. You can then follow up on other members posts to this thread to see their photographic ideas on the same theme.

Hope this sort of explains it.

Yeah, that makes things clearer. Thank you, Kaye! :) I'll go back and look through all of the past themes, and then try and think of an original new theme for everyone to participate in :D

I hope its ok, I know its way past February but since I just joined this forum and course TODAY, I'm anxious to share some of my photos taken with my very first SLR camera and I refuse to use the Point and Shoot settings. I have a Nikon D90 that was a gift less than a month ago. I have no experience with SLR and never used a 35 mm.

The shot was taken standing under the center of a 125' radio tower at our 911 Center.

Thanks for allowing me to add my photo.

Very interesting image....and welcome to our little group. Will be looking forward to seeing your images and the progress you make on your road to controlling your camera. It is an exciting road and gets a little addicting...:D

Just for your information...your camera is actually called a dslr....in the old days of film, they were called slr, which stands for single lens reflex camera that took 35 mm film. Some took other kinds of film but I'm not familiar with those. Yours is called a dslr, standing for digital single lens reflex. This way, when you talk about your camera, folks will know you are shooting digital and not film.

Enjoy the ride...its a blast!!

Sorry, its been a couple months away from PP; life just gets too crazy. I am trying to take my camera with me as much as possible. I saw this thread and thought my recent trip to the county fair may have some upward shots. This is my daughter & friends on some of the crazier rides. They seemed to show no fear getting on the rides, but I caught a couple that may indicate otherwise. It was difficult getting these shots as they were going quite fast and I was getting dizzy on the ground trying to follow them around and around...

I just noticed this thread -- looking up -- and just happened to have taken a picture of a pine tree in my yard a couple of weeks ago. I've got it in B/W and in color.

Thank you mvmarina, JHailey and 1checha for posting your images in the Weekly Photoshots. They are all wonderful images. Not many members have been visiting this thread recently, but perhaps this will prompt a few views.
It is amazing what we can find when looking up!:)
